Research Assistant - Ageing and Migration Project at Asia Research Institute, NUS

About the Role

The Asia Research Institute (ARI) at the National University of Singapore invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant to contribute to a four-year research initiative funded by the Social Sciences Research Council Singapore. The project focuses on ageing and migration among foreign-born residents in Singapore, exploring resource environments and future prospects for ageing populations.

Job Responsibilities

The appointed Research Assistant will engage primarily in qualitative research and data analysis, with the possibility to work on mixed methods approaches preferred. Duties include providing administrative support for grant management to the Principal Investigator, facilitating communication between project members and external stakeholders, and coordinating with local stakeholders involved in the study. Participation in ARI seminars, conferences, and social functions is expected to enrich engagement with ongoing research activities.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor's degree in relevant disciplines such as Geography, Sociology, Anthropology, or related fields. Candidates should demonstrate strong qualitative research skills, with experience in mixed methods considered a plus. Proficiency in English, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to present research to both academic and general audiences are essential.

Conversational ability in Mandarin or Chinese dialects common in Singapore (Hokkien, Cantonese, Teochew, Hainanese), Malay, or Tamil will be advantageous. Familiarity with managing large grants and collaborating with diverse stakeholders is desirable. Candidates should be curious, adaptive to new methodologies and technologies, and proficient in Microsoft Office tools. Effective multitasking, organisational skills, and teamwork are crucial.

Terms and Conditions

• The contract will begin as soon as possible for an initial duration of 12 months, with the possibility of renewal until August 2030.
