Position Overview
This hybrid role based in Toronto requires the selected candidate to work at the office at least three days each week. The Canadian Press seeks a dedicated, experienced journalist capable of producing content with accuracy and creativity across various assignments. The role demands regular evening and weekend shifts as part of the schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, edit, and gather multimedia news content for The Canadian Press services including print, broadcast, and video formats.
- Report breaking news promptly across all platforms, leveraging social media effectively.
- Proactively generate original story ideas, special projects, and exclusives to influence news coverage.
- Demonstrate strong multitasking skills under tight deadlines while maintaining clarity and accuracy.
- Edit copy and perform desk duties as required.
- Work scheduled shifts which include evenings and weekends regularly.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in journalism or equivalent professional experience in the field.
- Hands-on experience working in a fast-paced, real-time digital newsroom environment.
- Excellent news judgment and decision-making capabilities.
- Strong writing and editing proficiency.
- Proven expertise in using social media platforms both for news gathering and enhancing the organization's public profile.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Familiarity with Canadian Press style guidelines is advantageous.
- Bilingualism in English and French is considered a plus, but not mandatory.
