About the Role

Community Health Systems (CHS) is hiring a Remote Scheduling Specialist for its Patient Access Center. In this role, you will be an important first contact for patients and will help support access to care by coordinating appointments, handling general patient needs, and relaying information accurately to clinical teams. The position contributes to a healthcare environment focused on building long-term patient relationships and serving communities well.

Role Summary

The Scheduling Specialist supports appointment scheduling for assigned hospitals, clinics, or centralized patient access operations. The role requires careful coordination of patient communications, timely documentation, and adherence to organizational standards, policies, and compliance expectations. You will work closely with patients, providers, clinicians, and leadership while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.

Key Duties

  • Coordinate patient appointments accurately across multiple clinics, based on the assigned area.
  • Respond to incoming messages and calls from patients, clinicians, and staff through phone, text, email, and call center tools.
  • Identify urgent clinical concerns and arrange immediate warm handoffs to clinic staff when needed.
  • Record non-urgent requests such as refill needs or clinical questions in the EMR and direct them to the right team member.
  • Confirm patient demographic and insurance details while following applicable rules and requirements.
  • Look up patient requests in the medical record, share needed information, and help resolve questions while protecting confidentiality.
  • Track and manage work in EMR in-baskets, call center systems, and related tools as required.
  • Provide courteous, timely, and professional support to patients, providers, and facility staff.
  • Complete additional assigned tasks and follow all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • A bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in scheduling, operations, or healthcare administration is required.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in provider scheduling, patient appointment scheduling, or call center operations is required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Comfort using scheduling platforms, EMR systems, and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer service mindset with a focus on prompt and respectful support.
  • Solid problem-solving ability and close attention to detail.
  • Capability to juggle multiple priorities in a busy healthcare or call center setting.
  • Understanding of healthcare standards, confidentiality, and compliance practices.
