Remote Game Music Composer

Role overview

We are looking for a gifted music composer to craft an original score for a trailer for a 2D pixel-art game with a Solarpunk setting. The project takes cues from beloved SNES-era role-playing games such as Chrono Trigger, while aiming for a fresh, futuristic, and optimistic atmosphere.

The story follows a world in danger, where the characters come together to protect a carefully restored balance between nature and technology. The soundtrack should reflect ideas of calm resistance, care for the planet, and the meeting point of organic and mechanical worlds.

This trailer is being created as a proof of concept to test audience interest and may help attract future funding. The right composer will bring originality, flexibility, and thoughtful musical ideas, and should be able to recommend a direction that combines emotional depth with a contemporary synth-led feel. Retro chiptune or 8-bit/16-bit styling is not desired.

This is a remote freelance contract suited to a composer with a strong background in game music.

Deliverables

• Create and produce an original soundtrack for the game trailer, aligned with the Solarpunk world and action-RPG tone.
• Work closely with the project owner to shape the music direction and incorporate feedback.
• Provide polished audio files ready for use in the trailer and demo materials.
• Contribute creative suggestions on style, with a blend of classical warmth and futuristic sound design.
• Complete all work within the mutually agreed schedule.

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience writing music for video games, ideally in indie or RPG projects.
• A strong body of work showing skill in both orchestral writing and synth/electronic composition.
• Ability to understand story themes and turn them into memorable musical ideas.
• Comfort using digital audio workstations and virtual instruments.
• Clear communication style and willingness to collaborate creatively.
• Availability to work remotely with a flexible schedule.
• Interest in experimental, genre-crossing soundtracks and narrative-driven music.
