About the Role and Company

Join a leading home builder with over seven decades of experience and a national reputation for excellence, ranking within the top five in the United States with more than 500,000 homes developed and sold. We are seeking a Remote Fully Designated Mortgage Underwriter, a key position responsible for supporting homeownership by meticulously assessing and approving mortgage loans. This role is primarily remote but may require occasional onsite attendance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and underwrite Conventional, FHA, and VA mortgage loan applications in compliance with investor and agency guidelines.
  • Process submissions through automated underwriting systems and critically analyze the outcomes.
  • Determine loan approval status or deferment, and present qualifying cases to the loan committee.
  • Function as a reliable resource for branch partners, offering guidance on complex underwriting scenarios and inquiries.
  • Maintain prompt turnaround times of 24 to 48 hours for both new and resubmitted applications.
  • Ensure loan documentation accuracy and maintain thorough file records.
  • Leverage office technology and systems to promote efficient underwriting workflows.

Candidate Requirements

  • Active FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) and VA SAR/LAPP underwriting approvals are mandatory.
  • At least five years of experience within mortgage underwriting roles.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a proactive and cooperative approach to problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across multiple departments and stakeholders in mortgage and lending.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision in work products.
  • Effective organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Comfortable utilizing Microsoft Excel for data handling and analysis.
  • Prior experience with Encompass software is preferred but not essential.
