Job description
Role Overview
This position is for a Relief Security Officer covering Plymouth and nearby locations. The job is based on-site and involves providing security support across multiple client sites as required. The main purpose of the role is to protect people, premises, and assets while maintaining a professional, helpful, and vigilant presence.
Hours and Pay
The rate of pay is £14.00 per hour. A minimum commitment of 36 hours per week is expected, with overtime available. Shifts may include days, nights, and weekends, so a high level of flexibility is essential.
Main Duties
You will help maintain safe and secure environments across assigned sites. The role includes monitoring access, responding to incidents, and ensuring security procedures are followed at all times.
- Manage site entry and exit, monitor CCTV and alarm systems, and stop unauthorised access.
- Carry out regular internal and external patrols to protect staff, visitors, and property.
- Respond quickly to emergencies, breaches, and other security-related incidents in line with local procedures.
- Record hazards, suspicious activity, accidents, and other concerns accurately.
- Handle keys, passes, radios, pagers, and other security equipment securely and responsibly.
- Support health and safety standards by promoting safe practices and reporting hazards or near misses.
- Maintain clear incident logs, reports, and documentation within required timeframes.
- Carry out stop-and-search activity when needed and use security systems effectively.
- Provide a professional and courteous service to employees, visitors, and contractors.
- Help protect company property, information, and assets from theft, damage, waste, or loss.
- Support emergency procedures and help ensure first aid and safety resources are kept ready for use.
- Follow assignment instructions, company policies, and management direction.
- Demonstrate the company values of Integrity, Vigilance, and Helpfulness in everyday work.
Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants should be adaptable, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team. The role calls for strong customer service skills and the ability to cover shifts at short notice.
- Valid SIA licence.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Age 18 or over.
- At least five years of checkable work history.
- No criminal convictions.
- Availability across days, nights, and weekends.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision as well as in a team.
- Full UK driving licence; a vehicle is desirable.
- Previous security officer experience.
- First Aid qualification.
- Security experience of 2+ years is preferred.
