Role overview
Paladin Security is looking for a reliable, polished, and empathetic Patient Watch Officer to support healthcare operations in the Peace River, Alberta area. This is a full-time, on-site position based in healthcare facilities.
The core purpose of the role is to continuously observe patients who may pose a risk to themselves or others while helping maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The position calls for sharp attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to stay composed in stressful situations.
Work schedule and travel
This role requires on-demand availability, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts. Candidates must also be prepared for short-notice assignments.
You must be willing to travel up to 500 km to rural healthcare facilities in the surrounding region using your own vehicle. Approved mileage is reimbursed.
Key duties
- Keep assigned patients under constant watch and report any change in behavior or condition right away to hospital staff and security.
- Use calm de-escalation approaches to help protect patients, visitors, and healthcare personnel.
- Record incidents, observations, and interactions clearly and accurately.
- Use two-way radios and computer-based systems for communication and reporting.
- Stay professional and steady during emergencies and other high-pressure situations.
- Build effective working relationships with hospital staff and site contacts.
- Safeguard confidential patient and organizational information.
- Screen and monitor visitors and clients according to site procedures.
- Remain attentive and alert throughout every shift.
- Follow healthcare facility safety rules and security protocols at all times.
Must-have qualifications
- At least 18 years of age.
- A clean criminal record.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
- A dependable personal vehicle and readiness to travel across the region.
- Availability for day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- Ability to sit for long stretches when needed.
- Strong verbal communication and incident report writing skills.
- Ability to stay calm and professional under pressure.
- Comfort handling sensitive information discreetly.
Nice-to-have background
- Basic Security Training (BST).
- First Aid certification.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training.
- Prior experience in healthcare security, healthcare support, customer service, or security.
Training and additional notes
A security licence is not required for this position. Successful applicants will receive Healthcare Security Training from Paladin Security, and First Aid training can also be provided if needed.
Compensation and benefits
The role pays CAD 22.44 per hour.
