Job description

About Hato Hone St John

Hato Hone St John has been supporting communities across Aotearoa since 1885. Alongside ambulance services, the organisation’s programmes and more than 11,000 staff and volunteers help strengthen resilient communities and support people throughout New Zealand to live healthier, happier, and longer lives.

About the role

We are hiring a Relief Paramedic for a July 2026 start. This position is based in Twizel and works a 12-hour DDNN roster. It is part of a new 24/7 service resource operating from Twizel.

The opportunity is well suited to an experienced, highly motivated paramedic who can adapt quickly and work confidently with both paid staff and volunteers. The role offers a chance to make a meaningful contribution as part of a supportive, energetic team in the Mackenzie Country, while enjoying a lifestyle surrounded by mountains, lakes, and open landscapes.

What you will bring

You should have strong clinical and operational capability, a professional driving history, and excellent people skills. A genuine focus on patient and community wellbeing, the ability to stay effective under pressure, and evidence of CCE are important for success in this role. You will also need to demonstrate behaviours that reflect the organisation’s values: doing the right thing, standing side by side, being straight up, making it better, and keeping an open mind.

Qualifications and requirements

This role requires Paramedic ATP and registration with Te Kaunihera Manapou Paramedic Council. Candidates must bring proven operational and clinical performance, strong interpersonal ability, a customer-focused approach, and a clean, reliable driving record. Pre-employment checks will be completed, including a physical assessment and health check, and driving roles must meet the organisation’s medical standards.

Application information

Applications close on Sunday 12 July 2026. For a confidential conversation, contact Natalia Bregano, Recruitment Advisor, at natalia.bregano@stjohn.org.nz.

The organisation welcomes diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can belong. Reasonable accessibility support is available during the recruitment process by contacting the recruiter. Applicants are encouraged to apply even if they do not meet every requirement exactly, especially if they are enthusiastic about the role and believe they can contribute.

Leave it if you'd like a reply — we won't use it for anything else.
