Role Summary
The Reimbursement Specialist is responsible for ensuring insurance claims are handled promptly, accurately, and efficiently. This role focuses on collecting payments from both contracted and non-contracted insurance carriers as well as customers, while working closely with Customer Sales Support to maintain accurate data and follow the requirements set by health insurance plans.
What You Will Do
- Review medical criteria and confirm that patient records satisfy the required standards.
- Examine patient information and supporting documents carefully before claim submission.
- Prepare and send healthcare claims to insurance providers.
- Update patients on insurance claim progress when needed.
- Reach out to patients about unpaid invoices and collection matters.
- Take incoming calls from patients with insurance claim questions.
- Make outbound calls to insurers to check the status of unresolved claims.
- Work out structured payment arrangements when appropriate.
- Use the CRM system to access and update patient claim details.
- Stay current on Tandem’s products and services.
- Complete all required training before taking on full job duties.
- Follow company policies and all applicable privacy, HIPAA, legal, regulatory, and safety requirements.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent mix of education and relevant work experience.
- At least 2 years of experience in medical billing or a closely related field.
- Prior work in a HIPAA-regulated setting is required.
- Experience billing durable medical equipment is preferred.
- Background in diabetes care or other diagnostic/device-based disease management is preferred.
- Solid understanding of medical billing, insurance claims processing, and follow-up workflows.
- Working knowledge of the data required on a HCFA 1500 billing form.
- Familiarity with billing codes and modifiers used by CMS.
- Ability to interpret Explanation of Benefits documents from healthcare providers.
- Understanding of claims clearinghouses and how they function.
- Strong phone communication skills for handling customer and insurer conversations within department procedures.
- Ability to communicate work updates clearly in both verbal and written form.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to support and help onboard new colleagues.
- Consistent accuracy, ability to follow directions and schedules, and comfort handling multiple priorities.
- Experience using MS Office tools, the internet, and CRM platforms.
Work Location and Schedule
This is a fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in the United States. The shift must be available to start at 5:00 AM PST. Work equipment will be provided, and training will take place virtually.
Compensation and Benefits
The starting hourly base pay is between $23.00 and $25.00. Pay may vary based on role-related knowledge, skills, experience, location, and market conditions. In addition to base pay, the company offers a bonus opportunity and a competitive benefits package.
