Role overview
MBIE is seeking a Regulatory Specialist to join the Business System Delivery and Assurance (BSDA) team within the Te Whakatairanga Service Delivery Branch. This permanent full-time position is based in Wellington or Christchurch and offers the chance to build further experience in regulatory compliance while working across important building system functions.
The team supports a range of building regulatory responsibilities, including compliance, monitoring, assurance, and service delivery. Its work covers oversight of Building Consent Authorities and Territorial Authorities, as well as building product assurance and the CodeMark, MultiProof, BuiltReady, and overseas-approved product certification schemes.
What the role involves
This position is centred on supporting the team’s regulatory delivery work. It also requires the ability to operate independently within a virtual team spread across different locations, while maintaining strong coordination with colleagues and stakeholders.

Skills and experience required
Applicants should bring prior experience in a regulatory compliance setting and/or within the building system. You will need to have worked with relevant policies and procedures tied to regulatory processes, used your judgment to provide advice and influence decisions, and understood how to apply the Building Act and other relevant legislation in decision-making.
Experience dealing with internal and external stakeholders is important, including work on projects involving sector representatives. Strong technical writing skills are expected, along with the ability to stay effective under pressure and adapt as priorities shift.
Salary and benefits
The salary range for this role is $85,537 to $101,911, plus KiwiSaver and wellness benefits.
