About the role

The Regulatory Compliance Manager will own the organisation’s regulatory affairs function and act as the main coordinator for all interactions with regulators relating to factory approvals, product registrations, renewals, and compliance matters. The role also involves managing communications with principals on regulatory topics, handling registration workflows, and supporting improvements for already registered products. In addition, the position supports internal teams with all regulatory requirements needed to keep operations compliant.

This person will help ensure the business meets the standards of the relevant authorities and will provide regulatory guidance across several operational and commercial activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with regulators including SON and NAFDAC.
  • Build and implement regulatory plans before product approval and after approval of new products.
  • Support the review of consumer complaints from a regulatory perspective.
  • Advise teams on regulatory requirements for product marketing and advertising.
  • Record, organise, and archive all meetings and proceedings with regulatory agencies.
  • Track regulatory changes and share updates on status, obligations, and new requirements.
  • Ensure all registered products continue to meet regulatory standards.
  • Confirm that company practices align with NAFDAC and SON rules.
  • Ensure food-additive, nutrition, and labeling requirements comply with NAFDAC Codex guidelines.
  • Represent the organisation in discussions and meetings with NAFDAC, SON, and other authorities.
  • Manage registrations for locally manufactured food and cosmetic products.
  • Handle registrations for imported food, cosmetic, and medical device products.
  • Process renewals for product registrations nearing expiry.
  • Manage changes to registered products such as pack size extensions, formula changes, label redesigns, packaging material updates, and changes in manufacturing source.
  • Coordinate NAFDAC and SON inspections of production facilities.
  • Oversee destruction exercises for expired or damaged goods.
  • Process import permits for materials.
  • Support global listing registration for supermarket items in food and cosmetic categories.
  • Coordinate NAFDAC stamping of shipping documents to support timely cargo clearance.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly regulatory reports.
  • Regularly check the validity of NAFDAC certificates.
  • Maintain the NAFDAC master file.
  • Support the registration and clearing teams with regulatory input, including Form M-related activities.
  • Coordinate Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) registrations for factories.
  • Manage factory registration processes end to end.
  • Compile, review, and submit technical dossiers for new and existing product registrations.
  • Keep professional communication with NAFDAC and SON officers to speed up approvals and address queries.
  • Arrange and support NAFDAC and SON inspections of warehouses, factories, and production lines.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in regulatory affairs.
  • Background in an FMCG or food environment, with strong understanding of food and FMCG manufacturing, marketing and advertising requirements, and the practices needed to achieve solid GMP and audit outcomes.
  • Proven experience handling regulatory projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related discipline is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and clear verbal and written communication.
  • Confident presentation skills.
  • Highly organised, detail-focused, and able to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a virtual team.
  • Personal qualities such as curiosity, humility, drive, and conscientiousness are valued.
  • Team-oriented, creative, process-driven, and committed.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Professional approach, leadership qualities, and strong interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to solve compliance issues, think quickly, and make sound decisions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality standards.
  • Good understanding of Nigerian and international regulatory laws.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with strict confidentiality.
