Registered Nurse (RN) Full-Time - Woodside, Wellington

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to oversee daily nursing operations within our long-term care facility located in Woodside, Wellington, New Zealand. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local standards while delivering top quality, compassionate care to our residents.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Support the Director of Nursing in managing daily nursing activities aligned with current regulations.
• Contribute to creating, updating, and maintaining policies and procedures for nursing services.
• Maintain current reference materials in nurses' stations and update the Nursing Service Procedures Manual to reflect facility practices.
• Ensure adherence of nursing personnel to established procedures and report operational insights to the Director.
• Coordinate nursing services with other resident support areas to guarantee comprehensive care.
• Participate in quality assurance programs and government facility inspections as required.
• Oversee resident discharge planning and ensure documentation is accurate and updated timely.

Committee Participation

• Engage in facility committees such as Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, and Quality Assessment.
• Prepare and deliver reports on nursing services to relevant committees.
• Implement committee decisions and contribute to care plan meetings.

Personnel Management

• Ensure adequate staffing of licensed and certified nursing personnel during each shift.
• Develop and assign work duties, delegating responsibilities appropriately to Charge Nurses.
• Supervise nurse aide trainees and ensure they receive proper oversight from licensed nurses.
• Conduct regular rounds to verify compliance with standards and address absenteeism issues.
• Maintain professional workplace standards, manage grievances, and support positive interdepartmental relationships.
• Participate in staffing evaluations and recommend personnel actions fairly and equitably.
• Report occupational exposures and suspected fraud according to policies.

Nursing Care Duties

• Manage admissions, transfers, and discharges ensuring rooms and residents are properly attended to.
• Conduct physician rounds and encourage timely documentation by medical staff.
• Collaborate with residents, families, and physicians to devise and update care plans.
• Observe residents daily to assess physical and emotional wellbeing.
• Provide direct nursing care including starting IVs, specimen collection, vital signs monitoring, and medication administration oversight.
• Authorize restraints according to policy and ensure medication safety and cleanliness of treatment areas.
• Communicate effectively with residents' families and arrange necessary transportation or funeral services.

Staff Development

• Assist in planning and conducting in-service training covering critical topics such as OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, and Infection Control.
• Support clinical supervision and participate in continuing education to maintain licensure and professional knowledge.

Safety and Sanitation

• Help develop safety standards and oversee adherence to infection control and blood/body fluid exposure protocols.
• Ensure availability and correct use of personal protective equipment.
• Maintain clean and sanitary nursing work environments including treatment areas and resident rooms.
• Promote compliance with hand hygiene and participate in fire safety and disaster preparedness drills.
