Job description

Role overview

PlunketLine is a free telehealth helpline that provides advice to whānau 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In this role, registered nurses draw on their clinical knowledge to support caregivers with everyday parenting concerns as well as urgent situations, offering guidance that helps families get the right outcome.

There are two Registered Nurse openings available. The roles can be full-time or part-time, with a minimum commitment of 0.6 FTE. You may work from the Auckland or Wellington call centres, or, if you are a confident practitioner, from anywhere in Aotearoa provided you have a fast fibre connection and a private space that lets you work without interruption and protect caller confidentiality. Shift patterns include mornings, evenings and weekends.

What the role involves

As part of PlunketLine, you will answer around-the-clock calls about the health and wellbeing of tamariki under five and parenting support. Although working from home offers flexibility, you must be fully ready at your desk for every shift and every incoming call.

Typical calls may cover topics such as starting solids, sleep concerns, vomiting, colds, flu, burns and similar issues. Your nursing judgement and clinical assessment will be essential in deciding the right advice and next steps for each caller. Comprehensive training and on-call support from Clinical Leaders will be provided.

Candidate profile

This position suits a nurse who listens carefully, asks the right questions, and uses compassion to understand each caller’s situation before offering advice and recommendations. You should be able to stay composed in a fast-moving environment, think quickly, and remain resilient throughout your shift. Because the role is computer-based, strong digital confidence and the ability to work across multiple systems are important.

Experience in paediatrics, emergency care, or urgent care is required. Prior telehealth or call-centre experience is helpful, but it is not essential.

Reward and support

The salary for a full-time role ranges from $66,222 to $94,842 per year, which works out to approximately $33.51 to $48.00 per hour depending on experience. Penal rates are available for evening and weekend work.

  • Two Well Health Days, allowing planned health days to be taken using sick leave
  • Access to additional service channels once trained, including live chat, virtual sleep support, and virtual lactation consultant appointments
  • Career pathways into leadership, education, and head office roles
  • Learning, professional development, and cultural competence programmes
  • Generous parental leave support
  • Fitness Passport access with discounted membership options at participating health and wellness facilities

How to apply

Applications need to be submitted online by 25 June 2026. Applications are reviewed as they come in, and the advert may close early if suitable candidates are identified.
