Job description
Role overview
Progressive Care is seeking an experienced Registered Manager to lead a children’s home supporting young people with learning disabilities. This is a leadership opportunity for someone who wants to build a service, guide a team, and help create a safe, supportive environment where children can grow and achieve better outcomes.
The organisation has been operating in social care for more than 25 years and is expanding its services, creating scope for leaders to develop their careers alongside the business. The role is based in Wath Upon Dearne, England, United Kingdom.
About the organisation
Progressive Care delivers a range of care services, including children’s residential care, family assessment services, 16+ supported living, and support for people with learning disabilities. Its focus is on helping individuals feel secure, respected, and able to build positive futures.
What you will do
You will take the lead in shaping a child-centred home from the ground up, supporting registration, setting expectations, and building a strong team culture. You will also benefit from support from internal specialist functions such as HR, quality assurance, psychology, education, IT, finance, and experienced Ofsted-registered managers.
- Guide a team to deliver a stable, structured, and caring environment.
- Help young people build confidence, independence, and everyday life skills.
- Keep the service firmly focused on the needs of the child.
- Maintain high standards of care and service performance.
- Create, review, and improve care plans.
- Manage staff supervision, appraisals, and development.
- Ensure the home operates in line with legislation and Ofsted expectations.
- Lead the registration process and help establish the service.
- Recruit, onboard, and develop team members.
- Work with external professionals and agencies to advocate for young people.
- Push for outcomes that go beyond the minimum expected level.
What the role requires
The ideal candidate will bring both professional knowledge and a hands-on leadership style. You should be confident working with children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs, and be comfortable helping launch new services.
- Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Residential Childcare.
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or a commitment to complete it within 2 years.
- At least 2 years of experience in a residential childcare setting.
- Good understanding of legislation, Ofsted standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience completing risk assessments and writing clear reports.
- Proven ability to lead, support, and develop teams.
- Strong communication and organisational abilities.
- A proactive and adaptable approach with an outcomes-focused mindset.
- Substantial experience supporting children with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs.
- Experience in, or readiness for, opening and establishing new services.
- The ability to motivate others to achieve ambitious outcomes.
- Confidence to challenge appropriately, advocate effectively, and maintain high standards with internal and external partners.
- A compassionate, approachable leadership style that fits the organisation’s values.
Benefits and support
The organisation offers a structured reward and development environment for senior leaders, with recognition linked to experience, responsibility, and impact.
- Competitive pay with performance recognition.
- Clear opportunities to progress into senior and multi-site leadership roles.
- Tailored induction and onboarding.
- Ongoing leadership and management training.
- Continuous professional development.
- Fully funded qualifications through a nationally accredited training centre.
- Autonomy to shape the service, team culture, and outcomes for young people.
- Strong organisational and wellbeing support for senior leaders.
- A collaborative, values-led workplace where leadership support is visible and contributions are acknowledged.
Additional information
A DBS enhanced background check is required for all hired staff because of the nature of the role. Sponsorship is not available, so applicants must already have the right to work in the UK.
