You will shape regional financial strategy, strengthen oversight, and improve operational performance across a complex international portfolio. The position blends high-level finance leadership with practical support for multi-country operations, donor-funded programs, and strategic priorities.
In this role, you will work closely with senior leaders, finance professionals, and operational teams to improve decisions through clear and accurate financial insight. You will also help build stronger finance functions, develop team capability, and drive ongoing improvement in a fast-moving environment.
Key responsibilities
- Set the direction for regional financial management and ensure it aligns with organizational policies, procedures, and donor obligations.
- Work alongside finance leaders and regional stakeholders to improve financial practices, increase efficiency, and support program delivery.
- Track regional financial performance, spot risks and opportunities, and create mitigation plans that strengthen financial health.
- Oversee accounting activities across the region, with a focus on strong controls, accurate reporting, timely reconciliations, and compliance with financial standards.
- Assist country teams with budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and analysis to improve the use of resources and program outcomes.
- Review financial reports, audits, and compliance issues, and support corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Advise on donor rules, finance policies, and compliance expectations, especially in complex international funding settings.
- Support proposal preparation, budget evaluation, cost analysis, and the financial side of business development work.
- Partner with senior leadership by providing financial insight, risk assessments, and recommendations that support strategic decisions.
- Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop regional finance team members to improve capability and performance.
- Encourage knowledge sharing, training, and capacity building among finance teams and operational stakeholders.
- Help implement new finance processes, systems, and strategic initiatives across the region.
- Travel periodically to country offices and field locations to provide financial oversight and build local capacity.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is required; a master’s degree, CPA, or similar professional certification is an advantage.
- At least 10 years of progressive international finance management experience, ideally in international development, humanitarian, or nonprofit settings.
- Hands-on experience managing multi-country finance operations, compliance structures, and donor-funded projects.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, accounting practices, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management.
- Experience handling donor compliance requirements, including those linked to US Government and European Union funding.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop finance teams across different locations and cultures.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior decision-makers.
- Comfort working in complex, fast-paced, and changing environments, including emergency or field-based situations.
- Ability to interpret complex financial data and explain insights clearly to non-finance audiences.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory; additional regional language knowledge is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including up to 25% of the time.
Perks and benefits
- Fully remote working arrangement with flexibility to work from locations aligned to regional time zones.
- Chance to lead finance strategy and operations across a diverse international portfolio.
- Opportunity to contribute to meaningful programs and initiatives with global impact.
- Access to professional growth through ongoing learning and capacity-building opportunities.
