Their lead product, Deramiocel (CAP-1002), is an advanced cell therapy in late clinical stages for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). The company also leverages its proprietary StealthX™ exosome platform to explore new avenues in targeted delivery and vaccinology, emphasizing cutting-edge science and meaningful patient impact.

Role Overview

The Regional Director, Medical Science Liaison (MSL), serves as a scientific field leader responsible for executing Capricor’s scientific engagement strategy within a defined geographic territory across the US West focused on DMD and related cardiomyopathies. This position involves active communication and collaboration with key opinion leaders (KOLs), treatment centers, and academic institutions specializing in neuromuscular diseases, cardiology, and pediatric care. The role highlights identifying clinical and research opportunities and integrating frontline feedback into Capricor’s medical strategy for Deramiocel.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement a comprehensive engagement plan targeting KOLs, healthcare providers, and treatment centers within the territory.
  • Deliver informed scientific presentations and facilitate peer-level discussions focused on clinical data for Deramiocel, the DMD cardiomyopathy landscape, and latest research findings.
  • Support advisory boards, scientific symposia, and spearhead KOL-driven research activities.
  • Collaborate with HEOR, RWE, and Medical teams to identify investigator-initiated studies and real-world evidence generation opportunities.
  • Manage scientific support for relevant medical congresses covering DMD, neuromuscular, cardiology, and rare diseases.
  • Aggregate and analyze field insights related to clinical practice, treatment protocols, and emerging scientific data to refine medical strategies.
  • Provide scientific training and assistance to internal teams including Sales, Market Access, and Patient Services while ensuring compliance with engagement regulations.
  • Maintain deep scientific knowledge regarding Deramiocel clinical data, DMD natural history, and evolving treatment options.
  • Ensure prompt adverse event and product complaint reporting aligned with corporate and regulatory policies.
  • Document field activities and engagements efficiently in Capricor’s medical CRM system adhering to compliance standards.
  • Adhere strictly to FDA, OIG, PhRMA Code, ACCME, and internal compliance guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of an advanced clinical degree such as MD, PharmD, PhD, DO, or an equivalent credential.
  • Between 5 and 10 years of relevant Medical Science Liaison experience within biotech or pharmaceutical sectors; background in rare diseases, cell/gene therapies, pediatrics, neuromuscular or cardiology is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated scientific credibility with the ability to effectively engage KOLs in scientific discourse.
  • Strong familiarity with regulatory processes including FDA, OIG, PhRMA Code, ACCME, and Medical Legal Review (MLR).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, capable of conveying complex scientific concepts to clinical audiences.
  • Proven ability to function independently and manage tasks effectively within a remote, field-based setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Existing relationships within the DMD treatment centers, neuromuscular, or pediatric cardiology communities.
  • Experience with product launches in rare disease, cell/gene therapies, pediatric treatments, or neuromuscular/cardiology specialties.
  • Background working within pre-commercial or early-commercial biotechnology companies.

Competencies

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Vendor management and negotiation capabilities.
  • Adeptness at thriving in a dynamic, rapidly scaling workplace.
  • Exceptional attention to detail coupled with disciplined documentation practices.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.

Working Conditions

  • This is a remote, field-based role aligned with a specific geographic territory determined upon hiring.
  • The role requires approximately 60-75% domestic travel for engagements including KOL meetings, advisory boards, medical congresses, and internal coordination.
  • Occasional visits to Capricor’s headquarters in San Diego may be necessary.
