Role Context
The Risk team at ABHFL plays a vital role in underwriting and risk management, working closely with Sales to ensure sound business performance and adherence to control standards. The Regional Credit Manager leads regional credit and risk operations, responsible for establishing strong underwriting frameworks and balancing rapid growth with risk containment.
Key Challenges
- The business faces unique challenges from construction risk tied to under-construction projects.
- The Risk function must reconcile aggressive scaling with maintaining asset quality and avoiding sub-prime risks.
- Diverse state regulations and varied stakeholder interpretations demand up-to-date knowledge and compliance to enable growth while minimizing risk.
Primary Responsibilities
- Implement and monitor regional credit and risk operations per defined frameworks across business lines.
- Interface with Sales and Operations teams to coordinate decision-making and handle exceptions or escalations.
- Provide guidance to team members on technical, state-specific, and property-related risk factors.
- Evaluate and approve loan proposals as per delegated authority, supporting team approvals as needed.
- Track bounce rates, portfolio delinquency, and flag early default cases.
- Ensure timely collection of post-disbursement documentation.
- Drive process improvements balancing efficiency with robust risk control mechanisms.
- Facilitate smooth collaboration with Sales and Operations for problem-solving aligned to risk tolerance and business objectives.
- Manage escalation cases and external vendors to maintain quality and timelines.
- Monitor operational costs ensuring adherence to budgets.
- Maintain compliance with risk management principles through periodic reviews and audits.
- Enforce ‘Maker-Checker’ mechanisms across critical checks such as approvals, collateral valuations, and collections.
- Respond to audit observations timely, minimizing critical findings.
- Identify and analyze early warning signals for credit risk.
- Coordinate with Collections for delinquency monitoring, intervening on escalations to reduce NPAs.
- Engage with key delinquent accounts supporting resolution efforts.
- Report and escalate fraud cases to appropriate senior risk leaders.
Qualifications & Skills
- CA or MBA in Finance qualification.
- 8 to 12 years of relevant experience in banks, NBFCs, or Housing Finance Companies.
- At least 4 to 5 years specifically managing underwriting and risk in an HFC environment.
- Strong analytical, business acumen, presentation abilities, and stakeholder management skills.
- Effective team leadership and execution capabilities.
