Where you'll work
Job description
About the Organisation
This opportunity sits with an organisation that is changing the way large-scale procurement creates public value across Aotearoa. Its commercial and supply chain teams work throughout the country to support smarter use of public resources through strategic category leadership and long-term supplier partnerships.
About the Role
The Regional Commercial Manager is responsible for putting commercial strategy into practice within a regional setting, while also surfacing region-specific category matters for national-level review. The position requires a strong grasp of local market conditions, the ability to spot savings opportunities, and the confidence to build supplier relationships that encourage innovation and ongoing improvement.
Working closely with stakeholders across the region, you will make sure commercial activity matches operational needs while also supporting fair and sustainable outcomes. You will oversee the full commercial lifecycle, from shaping regional category strategy through sourcing and procurement, to awarding contracts, developing them, and managing them over time.
By building durable partnerships with regional suppliers, you will help ensure contractual compliance, address issues as they arise, and promote a culture of high performance and fresh thinking. A strong customer focus is essential, as the role is centered on delivering excellent service and getting the best possible value for the organisation.
Your work will directly support the organisation’s goal of achieving more with fewer resources through disciplined category management, effective market engagement, and strong supplier performance and contract oversight. A full position description is available.
About You
You are likely to hold a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and bring substantial experience in procurement and contracting, along with some background in category management. You can demonstrate strong capability in applying category strategies and sourcing methods that align with organisational objectives and generate value. You will also have a solid track record in contract negotiation and managing complex contractual arrangements, ideally within an infrastructure environment.
- You have successfully delivered and managed complex category strategies across multiple categories.
- You understand regional supplier markets, including new and emerging suppliers as well as broader market movements.
- You are comfortable using financial analysis to assess cost structures, pricing approaches, and the financial implications of decisions.
- You can interpret regional market data and trends to understand competition, pricing changes, and supplier performance, then use that insight to guide sourcing and negotiation.
- You have experience leading others while actively modelling organisational values and expected leadership behaviours.
- You understand commercial and contracting obligations.
Eligibility
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens, New Zealand residents, or already hold the legal right to work in New Zealand with a valid visa.
