Job description
Role Overview
We are a forward-thinking technology company developing software, developer infrastructure, interactive advertising technology, and digital platforms. Our growth is fueled by attracting top talent and cultivating thriving communities of developers, creators, operators, and innovators.
We seek a highly motivated and inquisitive Community & Ecosystem Manager to lead engagement efforts across Reddit, Discord, GitHub Discussions, Hacker News, LinkedIn, Common Room, and other developer and startup networks. This role uniquely combines community building, talent scouting, employer branding, developer relations, communications, and ecosystem development, distinct from conventional social media management or customer service roles.
Key Mission
Establish and expand a trusted network of developers, creators, students, researchers, startup professionals, and prospective team members by fostering meaningful connections rather than merely increasing community size.
Main Responsibilities
- Reddit Engagement: Identify and interact with high-value subreddits related to software engineering, startups, AI, gaming, developer tools, infrastructure, advertising technology, open source, and entrepreneurship; implement authentic interaction strategies focusing on credibility; curate organic engagement initiatives such as discussions, AMAs, educational and thought leadership content; track industry trends and talent; establish Reddit as a channel for talent discovery and ecosystem insight.
- Discord Management: Develop and administer a vibrant Discord community including channels, progression paths, moderation policies, events like workshops and AMAs, fostering meaningful developer and professional collaboration, and cultivating long-term engagement.
- Developer Community Oversight: Manage and engage on platforms like GitHub Discussions, Hacker News, open source and technical forums, university tech communities, and startup groups by designing focused engagement programs, nurturing relationships with contributors, supporting hiring activities, and encouraging input for product and ecosystem growth.
- Talent Discovery: Identify technical and non-technical professionals through community interactions, connect with university, startup, creator and developer ecosystems, support recruitment efforts through sourcing from community networks, and facilitate pathways for community members to become contributors, advocates, or employees.
- Community Intelligence: Utilize tools like Common Room to monitor community health, participation, influential contributors, growth, retention, and to provide actionable insights that inform leadership decisions, hiring strategies, and product development.
- Brand & Thought Leadership: Drive engagement on LinkedIn, Reddit, Hacker News, GitHub, and industry networks by articulating company mission, building trust, amplifying educational content, and enhancing visibility among high-quality professionals.
- Community Governance: Establish, refine, and enforce community guidelines and moderation frameworks to maintain respectful, constructive dialogue, manage conflicts impartially, and safeguard community integrity while promoting open discussion.
Success Indicators
Achievements will be assessed based on the quality and growth of community engagement, active contributor increases, retention rates, talent recruited via communities, conversions from community participants to applicants and contributors, quality and positivity of interactions, ecosystem expansion, and actionable insights derived from community activities. Emphasis is placed on meaningful impact over superficial metrics.
Ideal Candidate Attributes
- Proficient with Reddit community engagement and Discord management.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with adept networking and relationship-building capabilities.
- Experience in public relations, community engagement, and moderation of large groups.
- Organized with operational expertise and comfortable with multimedia communication formats such as video and live discussions.
- Preferred background includes developer relations, technical community management, startup ecosystems, open source communities, community-led recruiting, talent networks, creator and gaming communities, LinkedIn growth, and experience with community intelligence platforms like Common Room.
- Exemplifies deep empathy, curiosity, emotional intelligence, strategic problem solving, data literacy, and a startup mindset embracing ownership and adaptability.
