The African Union is hiring a Recruitment Officer based in Accra, Ghana, to support recruitment and onboarding activities and help drive day-to-day execution of the work plan.

Purpose of the role

This role exists to provide broad support across recruitment and onboarding while ensuring the division’s plans are implemented effectively in daily operations.

Key duties

  • Track and follow up on divisional activities to help maintain progress against work priorities.
  • Support the execution of policies, programmes, and internal procedures within the division.
  • Prepare accurate analysis and reports on time for unit/division use and for internal AU purposes.
  • Assist senior staff in shaping the direction of relevant policy areas.
  • Help organize meetings, congresses, and conferences involving stakeholders.
  • Support engagement with mid-level stakeholders and help build relationships where assigned.
  • Contribute to communications that promote division activities, including leaflets, guidelines, and fact sheets.
  • Provide technical assistance to both internal and external stakeholders.

Recruitment-specific responsibilities

  • Develop approaches, SOPs, policies, guidelines, and tools used for shortlisting, interviews, and staff selection.
  • Review the effectiveness of HR guidelines, rules, regulations, practices, and procedures, and suggest updates where needed.
  • Support preparation of the annual recruitment plan and take part in the recruitment cycle.
  • Ensure all recruitment steps comply with established practices and staff rules.
  • Prepare job advertisements with hiring managers/HRBPs, making sure criteria and responsibilities match approved documents.
  • Post vacancies on the AU website and subscribed social platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook.
  • Monitor vacancy notices and incoming applications to keep recruitment timelines on track.
  • Assist with shortlisting and interviews using SuccessFactors for candidate lists and scoring.
  • Take part in recruitment sessions and support panel members and candidates as needed.
  • Obtain approval for appointments, arrange contracts in the SAP system, and draft offers for selected candidates.
  • Carry out other HR-related tasks and assignments as required.

Academic background and experience

A bachelor’s degree in human resources management, business administration, management, public administration, marketing, or another related field, together with at least 2 years of relevant work experience, is required.

Contract and language conditions

The appointment is for a fixed-term contract of three (3) years, with the first twelve (12) months serving as a probationary period. Subject to satisfactory performance, the contract may be renewed for a further two years.

Applicants must have proficiency in one AU working language — Arabic, English, French, Portuguese, Swahili, or Spanish — and knowledge of another AU language is considered an advantage.

Compensation and benefits

The indicative base salary is USD 25,523.00 per year at P1 step 01, plus related benefits and allowances. For internationally recruited staff, these include a mobility allowance equal to 57% of base salary, a housing allowance of USD 16,813.44 per year, and an education allowance covering 100% of tuition and related education costs for each eligible dependent child, up to USD 10,000 per child per year. For locally recruited staff, the education allowance may be up to USD 3,300 per child per year.
