Role overview
South Canterbury Toyota is hiring a full-time Receptionist/Administrator to join its Timaru team. This is a 40-hour-per-week role, worked Monday to Friday, and sits within a supportive dealership environment known for strong teamwork and high standards. The position became available because of an internal promotion.
About the team
You will be part of South Canterbury Toyota, which operates within the McDermid Auto Collective, a family-run group with dealerships in Blenheim, Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Ashburton, Timaru, and other locations. The broader business is focused on delivering tailored, customer-first service across its sites. The Timaru dealership has more than 40 staff and is described as collaborative, inclusive, and high performing.
Key duties
- Welcome customers as they come into the dealership
- Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls
- Support accounts payable activities
- Reconcile bank statements
- Process NZTA transactions
- Manage banking tasks and cash handling
- Carry out reconciliation work
- Assist with a variety of general administration tasks

Candidate profile
The successful applicant should have prior experience in an administration position and be confident managing detailed records and data accurately. You should be comfortable with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word, and able to pick up and use business systems effectively. A strong attitude, team-focused mindset, and a drive to exceed expectations are all important.
