Job description
Position Overview
The R&D Regulatory Affairs Assistant Scientist role focuses on supporting PepsiCo’s concentrate business to ensure products comply with business-to-business food and beverage concentrate regulations. This position facilitates innovation and product reformulation by managing key compliance programs related to chemical notifications, classification and labelling, as well as data review and approval processes. This role is central to PepsiCo’s Global Regulatory Chemical Safety Centre of Excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead chemical notifications and submissions, including EU Classification and Labelling Notification (C&L).
- Oversee EU Poison Centre Notification (PCN) compliance in accordance with EU REACH legislation.
- Provide support for compliance with chemical hazard communication rules based on the UN Globally Harmonized System (GHS).
- Assist in managing GHS-required labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Support global obligations concerning dangerous goods and hazardous materials.
Qualifications and Skills
- Possess a third-level qualification in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Toxicology, Food Law, Nutrition, Food Science, or related technical fields.
- Experience in chemical regulatory affairs preferred, with specific advantage given to those familiar with Poison Centre Notification or Classification & Labelling notifications.
- Strong understanding of EU chemical regulations, including REACH EC 1907/2006 and CLP EC 1272/2008.
- Proven experience collecting complex data for submissions to regulatory bodies.
- Ability to evaluate the implications of legislative requirements on business operations.
- Capable of effectively conveying regulatory priorities and understanding.
- Proficient in IT, particularly with Safety Data Sheet software, databases, Microsoft Office, and communication platforms.
