Job description

Role overview

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a keen and committed Radiographer to join the team at St Mary’s Hospital in central London. The post is based in a busy Major Trauma Centre environment and offers the chance to work with a supportive multidisciplinary team.

St Mary’s Hospital is one of London’s four Major Trauma Centres. It includes a dedicated Acute Imaging Centre with a recently modernised CT scanner, along with a separate Paediatric A&E service.

This opportunity will allow you to strengthen your existing clinical experience across General Imaging, including A&E work across multiple specialties, while also developing capability in CT and Angio. Learning, education and training are central to the department’s approach.

The Imaging Department provides a wide variety of procedures across all imaging modalities. The role calls for adaptability, initiative and a strong standard of communication. The department also supports radiography students from several London universities.

As part of an Academic Health Science Centre, the Trust aims to deliver outstanding patient care through research, education and training. Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust brings together five hospitals — Charing Cross, Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea, Hammersmith, St Mary’s and the Western Eye Hospital — and its link with Imperial College London gives access to 50 clinical specialities and one of the largest portfolios in the UK.

Key duties

  • Provide consistently high standards of patient care with a strong focus on comfort and patient experience.
  • Work efficiently and effectively throughout the shift.
  • Arrive on time, dress appropriately and maintain professional conduct at all times.
  • Organise, prioritise and manage your own caseload within designated areas such as Fluoroscopy, with support from senior staff where needed.
  • Check referral or request forms to ensure they are valid and appropriate.
  • Decide when repeat X-rays or additional views are needed.
  • Carry out IV injections in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Escalate incidents, concerns and equipment faults to the area superintendent radiographer.
  • Work independently when required.
  • Use initiative while recognising your own limits and seeking advice when necessary.
  • Adapt your working pattern to meet service needs.
  • Perform any other duties that are reasonable and aligned with the responsibilities of the role.
  • Take an active part in the out-of-hours rota and complete rostered duties within contracted hours.
  • Complete all mandatory training required by Trust and departmental policy, including Manual Handling, Infection Control and Trust Core Skills.
  • Maintain continuous professional development in line with College of Radiographers and Health Professions Council guidance.

Working environment

You will be joining a vibrant team that reflects the Trust values of being expert, kind, collaborative and aspirational. The organisation offers an environment where you can grow your career while working alongside leading clinicians who are advancing patient care.

Benefits

Career development, flexible working, wellbeing support and a staff recognition scheme are included. Optional benefits may include Cycle to Work, car lease schemes, season ticket loans and membership choices for onsite leisure facilities.

Equal opportunities

The Trust is committed to equal opportunities and improving the working lives of staff. Applications for flexible working, part-time arrangements and job sharing will be considered, and candidates are encouraged to raise these preferences at interview.

Environmental sustainability

The Trust recognises climate change and poor air quality as major health issues that affect wellbeing and worsen health inequalities. It is working toward Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045, and all staff are expected to contribute through sustainable working practices and support from the green network.
