Radiation Protection Officer

Role overview

Bureau Veritas is hiring a Radiation Protection Officer to lead and strengthen the site radiation safety framework in Doha. The position focuses on protecting workers, the public, and the environment while ensuring radiographic and NDT activities are carried out safely and in line with regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Create, roll out, and keep current a full radiation protection program.
• Manage the use of ionizing radiation equipment such as X-ray and gamma-ray units used in NDT inspections.
• Set radiation safety rules, methods, and safe working practices, and ensure they are followed.
• Carry out radiation surveys and track radiation exposure in work locations and storage facilities.
• Make sure radiographic testing work complies with applicable radiation safety requirements and standards, including OSHA, NRC, and IAEA guidance.
• Train NDT technicians and other staff on radiation safety practices and correct equipment use.
• Keep accurate documentation of exposure records, equipment calibration, and all related program activities.
• Look into and document any radiation-related incidents or accidents.
• Act as the main liaison for regulators and auditors on radiation protection matters.
• Review program performance regularly and introduce improvements to raise safety and compliance levels.

Qualifications and skills

The ideal candidate should hold a Certified Radiation Protection Technologist (CRPT) credential, or an equivalent qualification, and have a strong grasp of radiation protection principles, relevant regulations, and current industry practices. Hands-on familiarity with radiation detection and monitoring tools is important, along with solid analytical thinking, troubleshooting ability, and confident decision-making. Strong communication and training capabilities are needed to work effectively with different teams, and the role requires both independent working and cross-functional collaboration. Willingness to travel to project sites is also required.
