Job description

Role overview

This position sits within EPS Mobility and is focused on building and sustaining high-calibre quality systems for EV traction motors. The scope covers stator, rotor, and complete motor assembly operations. The role is responsible for maintaining IATF 16949 alignment, steering APQP and PPAP activities, handling supplier quality, resolving customer quality concerns, and ensuring every product meets requirements for safety, reliability, and performance.

The right candidate will promote a zero-defect mindset, strong customer focus, and continuous improvement across the team. The role also involves working closely with cross-functional stakeholders to improve first-pass yield, lower PPM, strengthen validation, and stabilize production.

Key responsibilities

Quality management in this role includes maintaining compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and specific customer requirements. The incumbent will lead internal and external audits, close audit findings with durable corrective actions, and manage the documentation system, including quality manuals, SOPs, Control Plans, PFMEA, inspection standards, traceability records, and document control.

For new product introduction, the role owns APQP from concept stage through DV, PV, PPAP, and SOP. This includes reviewing and approving design validation and production validation plans covering durability, thermal performance, dielectric tests, vibration/NVH, and end-of-line performance. The person will also oversee PPAP readiness, including PSW, DFMEA/PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, Run@Rate, and process capability requirements such as Cp/Cpk.

On the shop floor, the role is expected to manage FPY, PPM, scrap, rework, and quality-related OEE across stator, rotor, and final assembly lines. The manager/engineer must ensure strong control plan execution, calibration of gauges, SPC tracking for CTQs such as hairpin welds, insulation integrity, press fits, and magnet placement, and continuous improvement of EOL signatures including electrical performance, torque ripple, partial discharge, hipot, and run-in vibration/noise. Layered process audits, gemba walks, and containment actions for non-conformances are also part of the job.

Supplier quality is another core responsibility. The role covers quality management for magnets, laminations, copper, machined components, castings, adhesives/resins, sensors, and electronics. It includes supplier audits, preferably using VDA 6.3 methods, PPAP approval, incoming quality assurance, and monitoring supplier PPM and on-time delivery. The incumbent will also drive 8D-based supplier corrective actions, dual-sourcing risk mitigation, and cost-of-poor-quality reduction.

Customer quality ownership is equally important. The selected professional will act as the main quality contact for OEM and Tier-1 customers, manage complaint resolution through root-cause analysis and permanent corrective actions, review warranty and field return data, perform teardown analysis, and maintain customer scorecards. Participation in customer audits, QBRs, and readiness reviews for new programs is also expected.

Problem-solving and improvement work will involve structured methods such as 8D, A3, 5-Why, and Fishbone analysis. The role supports Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen initiatives aimed at improving yield, reducing scrap, raising equipment uptime, and improving process capability. It also includes building digital quality dashboards and using analytics for FPY, PPM, Cp/Cpk, warranty trends, and predictive insights.

As a leader, the role will guide Quality Engineers, Technicians, Inspectors, and SQE team members. This includes defining skill matrices, identifying training needs, setting certification levels, and building audit capability while encouraging accountability, transparency, and a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications and experience

Candidates should hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Science Engineering. The role asks for 2 to 10 years of experience in electric motor design or manufacturing, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role with a Tier-1 supplier or OEM. Practical exposure to motor manufacturing processes such as lamination stamping and stacking, hairpin or conventional winding, insulation systems, and laser welding is required. Familiarity with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and production part approval systems is expected, along with strong data-analysis capability using tools such as Minitab, Power BI, and SPC software. Strong communication, stakeholder management, and sound decision-making in ambiguous situations are also important.
