Job description
Role Overview
The company, an exporter of Ghanaian food products located in Tema, is expanding from initial UK export readiness to a broader multi-SKU, multi-market export operation. The Quality Assurance Analyst role is essential for managing compliance and documentation to ensure the manufacturer remains audit-ready and meets export eligibility requirements. This position serves as a crucial link between day-to-day factory production and regulations set by the Ghana FDA, Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), and other destination-market authorities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a comprehensive master compliance file for each product SKU, incorporating ingredient specs, allergen information, nutritional data, batch traceability, certificates of analysis, and export certification records.
- Monitor and track renewal schedules for product registrations with Ghana FDA, manufacturing licenses, and certifications required by the UK/EU markets.
- Maintain updated, version-controlled label files aligned with the regulatory requirements of target markets.
- Prepare all necessary documents for customs clearance, importers, and freight forwarding agencies.
- Serve as the lead liaison with Ghana FDA and GSA, handling registration, testing, inspections, and subsequent follow-ups.
- Coordinate with external testing laboratories regarding sample submissions, testing scope, interpreting results, and escalate any technical discrepancies as needed.
- Collaborate directly with the production team to identify and close gaps in hygiene practices, ingredient documentation, process control, and record-keeping compliance relevant to export standards.
- Create and oversee corrective action plans to address identified issues, ensuring these are completed within agreed timelines.
- Apply specialized knowledge of agricultural sourcing and food science to assess supply chain traceability and food safety risks from farm through factory.
- Provide expert input on ingredient substitutions, shelf life considerations, and food safety factors including microbial risks and preservation techniques specific to sauces and condiments.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Agriculture, Biological Sciences, or a similar discipline.
- Three to five or more years in food manufacturing, quality assurance, or regulatory affairs, preferably within FMCG or food export sectors in Ghana or West Africa.
- Proven track record liaising with Ghana FDA and/or Ghana Standards Authority in registrations, inspections, or certification procedures.
- Ability to interpret laboratory reports such as nutritional panels and microbiological testing outcomes.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills, critical for maintaining high-quality compliance records.
- Experience or familiarity with agricultural supply chains involving smallholder farms in Ghana is advantageous.
