SGS is a global leader in inspection, verification, testing, and certification services, known internationally for its standards of quality and integrity. With a workforce of over 98,000 people and a network spanning more than 2,650 offices and laboratories, the company supports leading clients across 10 industries around the world with both global reach and local expertise.

The role sits within SGS’s Scientific In-sourcing offering, where SGS QC analysts and technical support professionals work on client sites under the guidance of SGS technical and operational teams. The work is carried out to strict technical and GMP expectations to help ensure the safety and quality of medicines used by patients.

Because of continued growth, SGS is looking to add an experienced QC Analyst to its expanding Scientific In-sourcing team in Limerick.

Role Overview

The main responsibility of this position is to test pharmaceutical materials such as raw materials and drug substances in a GMP-controlled environment, following the client’s procedures and quality framework. The primary analytical focus is GC and HPLC, with additional laboratory methods used as needed.

Key Duties

  • Learn from both SGS and client teams and develop competence in the required analytical methods.
  • Support the training of other analysts when suitably qualified.
  • Perform testing in line with approved procedures and applicable regulatory expectations.
  • Keep laboratory instruments maintained and ensure calibrations are completed according to schedule.
  • Track and manage the inventory and condition of materials used for analysis.
  • Where authorised, check and confirm results produced by other analysts to ensure they meet requirements.
  • Enter data accurately into LIMS.
  • Review laboratory results and complete batch analysis closure activities.
  • Meet target timelines, update visibility trackers, and communicate testing progress in meetings.
  • Maintain the laboratory in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Produce accurate lab records and ensure work is completed right first time and on schedule.
  • Prepare and maintain essential documents such as SOPs, methods, and reports.
  • Work collaboratively to meet and exceed customer expectations and help deliver client and SGS KPIs related to investigations, training, productivity, and on-time testing.
  • Report and document any atypical or unusual results, including follow-up investigations.
  • Take the lead on laboratory investigations and deviations when required.
  • Help maintain a safe workplace that remains inspection-ready at all times.
  • Identify and support improvements in safety, environmental performance, quality, and service delivery.
  • Work with your manager on personal development and career progression.
  • Consistently follow safe working practices and comply with company health and safety policies.
  • Adhere to the company’s Code of Integrity and SGS Ireland’s Equality & Diversity Policy.

Requirements

  • A science degree in Chemistry, or an equivalent qualification, at minimum Level 7.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a GMP laboratory.
  • Strong understanding of data integrity and familiarity with analytical systems and techniques including HPLC, GC, KF, IR, PSD, X-ray, and wet chemistry.
  • Comfortable using lab software and systems such as LIMS and Trackwise.
  • A collaborative team player who is adaptable to changing priorities and has a strong customer-service mindset.
  • High standards for quality, safety, and compliance.
