Position Summary
The QA/QC Engineer plays a pivotal role in safeguarding quality for the Terminal 6 Substructure project at King Salman International Airport in Riyadh, focusing specifically on Cast-in-Situ Concrete and the massive Mass Concrete Raft Foundation. This full-time onsite position reports directly to the QA/QC Manager and requires close collaboration with Material Engineers and Surveying Managers to uphold stringent quality standards for one of the Kingdom's critical infrastructure developments.
Primary Duties
- Ensure strict adherence to the Thermal Control Plan before pouring the 2.5m thick raft, including verifying installation of temperature sensors, cooling pipes, and insulation blankets in partnership with the Material Engineer.
- Supervise concrete placement operations, ensuring proper sequencing, minimal cold joints, correct lift thickness, and strict vibration standards to avoid defects such as honeycombing.
- Continuously monitor temperature fluctuations during the curing period, maintaining differences under 20°C and verifying cooling methods prescribed by Material Engineers.
- Conduct post-pour quality checks such as crack monitoring and cover depth validation using rebar locators.
- Inspect formwork conditions, reinforcement splicing and placement, and embedded component alignment to assure compliance with construction grids.
- Oversee finishing operations to meet flatness and levelness criteria as specified by ASTM standards.
- Enforce curing regimes to prevent plastic shrinkage, including ponding, wet burlap application, or curing compounds.
- Manage integrated scopes including waterproofing on raft foundations and basement walls, supporting Factory Acceptance Inspections for precast elements, and supervising earthwork compaction testing to meet required density before proceeding to waterproofing and slab works.
- Validate concrete mix designs at batch plants, supervise sample casting and standard-cure testing, and maintain rigorous documentation uploaded to the Autodesk Construction Cloud within 24 hours for client review.
- Address non-conformance issues promptly by issuing notices and ensuring closure of corrective measures.
Qualifications & Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Concrete Technology.
- Mandatory registration with the Saudi Council of Engineers.
- Preferably hold ACI certifications such as Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, Concrete Strength Testing Technician, and ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor certification.
- Over 10 years of QA/QC experience in heavy civil or infrastructure projects, including more than 5 years' focus on mass concrete foundations thicker than 2 meters.
- Proven expertise working on international airport terminal or runway projects.
- In-depth understanding of concrete science, including rheology, heat of hydration, admixture behavior, and methods to reduce cracking.
- Experience operating within frameworks of Tier-1 PMCs like Bechtel, familiar with their concrete pour protocols.
- Proficiency in standards such as ACI 301, ACI 318, ASTM C39, ASTM C94, and ASTM E1155.
- Skilled with MS Excel for temperature tracking, Autodesk Construction Cloud software for documentation, and capable of interpreting 3D BIM models (Navisworks/Revit).
- Hands-on experience with temperature monitoring systems, rebound hammers, ultrasonic testing, and other standard field testing tools.
