Role overview
This is a full-time, on-site position in Patna for a PWHT Technician. The role centers on carrying out Post Weld Heat Treatment activities in line with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements. You will be responsible for configuring PWHT equipment, choosing suitable heating techniques, placing thermocouples, and tracking temperature cycles to maintain correct heat distribution and controlled cooling.
Key responsibilities
The position includes creating and maintaining PWHT logs, reports, and records, while working with welding, quality, and safety teams to plan and execute heat treatment work. The technician will check weld joints before and after treatment, confirm that instruments are calibrated, and make sure safety rules and work permit requirements are followed. The role may also involve supporting training sessions by demonstrating best practices, helping with practical demonstrations, and contributing ideas to improve PWHT methods at site.
Technical qualifications
Candidates should have strong working knowledge of PWHT processes, welding basics, and relevant industry codes and standards such as ASME, AWS, or similar. Practical experience is needed for operating, setting up, and troubleshooting PWHT equipment, including electrical resistance heaters, induction heating systems, and temperature control panels. The role also requires the ability to read engineering drawings, welding procedure specifications, PWHT procedures, isometric drawings, and heat treatment charts.
Documentation and safety
Accurate recordkeeping is essential, including PWHT reports, calibration documents, and quality checklists prepared with basic digital tools such as spreadsheets and reporting templates. A clear understanding of industrial safety practices is also important, including lockout/tagout procedures, safe handling of high-temperature equipment, and compliance with site HSE requirements.
Education and experience
A minimum qualification of ITI or Diploma in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or a related engineering field is required. Additional certification in PWHT, NDT, or welding inspection will be considered an advantage. Prior experience in construction, fabrication, power, oil & gas, or heavy engineering projects in a PWHT or similar technician role is preferred.
