Role Overview

This role sits within the Department of Health, specifically in the Community Health Administration’s Cancer and Chronic Disease Prevention Bureau, Chronic Disease Division. The position supports chronic disease programs by providing project management, program evaluation, and epidemiological support. The selected candidate will use a data-informed approach to assess program activities, outcomes, and overall effectiveness.

The work involves close coordination with program coordinators and other internal teams, along with collaboration across health systems, community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to support evidence-based and sustainable chronic disease initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

The analyst will build planning and operational tools, review and interpret data, support reporting, and help strengthen program performance across the division. The role also includes preparing materials for different audiences, contributing to grant and proposal development, and supporting communication efforts related to disease prevention and control.

Depending on assignment, the incumbent may lead teams, manage projects across agencies, and prepare recurring as well as ad hoc reports for District, federal, and other external entities.

Work Environment

Most work is performed in an office setting, but the role also requires presence in community venues to support training for individuals and organizations across the District of Columbia. The position may involve exposure to people with contagious diseases, so situational awareness is important at all times.

Qualifications

Applicants should have specialized experience closely related to the duties of the job, typically equivalent to at least one year at the next lower grade level.

A master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or Statistics is strongly preferred. The agency also strongly prefers candidates with at least three years of experience in public health, health care administration, project management, or quality improvement. Experience using statistical software for data management and analysis, especially SAS or similar tools, is also highly desirable.

This job is part of the AFGE Local 2978 collective bargaining unit, and an agency fee or union dues may be deducted through payroll if applicable.
