Wayfinder Newport is a boutique hotel in Newport, Rhode Island, shaped by local chefs, bartenders, artists, designers, and entrepreneurs. The property was created to bring a fresh, community-driven approach to the Newport hotel experience. It includes 187 rooms, 30 deluxe suites, a full-service restaurant, and 2,600 square feet of event space. Role overview
The Public Area Attendant is an important part of the housekeeping team and helps maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the hotel’s shared spaces. This role contributes directly to guest satisfaction by keeping public areas tidy, supporting room attendants when needed, and helping create a comfortable and welcoming stay for guests.
Key responsibilities
- Greet and interact with guests in a courteous way and help ensure their stay is going smoothly.
- Collaborate with the housekeeping team to maintain the cleanliness standards of the property.
- Inspect assigned floors at the start and end of each shift to gather trash, bags, and used linen.
- Restock clean linen and maintain the required linen inventory in each floor pantry.
- Keep all public spaces clean, including restrooms, restaurant areas, event areas, pool shack, common areas, and corridors.
- Support room attendants by helping with heavy lifting during room cleaning.
- Clean public spaces according to departmental procedures and standard operating guidelines.
- Remove used linen and trash from service areas and transport them to the correct location.
- Respond to guests and coworkers in a friendly, professional, and helpful manner.
Qualifications and requirements
- Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience is preferred.
- A tidy, courteous, and pleasant personality is important.
- Strong time-management ability is needed.
- Must be able to stay on your feet for long periods.
- Effective communication skills are required.
- Ability to read room numbers, dates, and simple instructions is necessary.
- Must be able to bend, move, reach corners and high areas, notice conditions and odors, and maneuver carts weighing up to 100 lbs in narrow spaces.
- Comfortable using cleaning tools and equipment such as spray bottles, vacuums, mops, brooms, dust pans, scrub pads, and dusters.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and position items weighing at least 25 lbs.
- Availability to work weekends and holidays is required.
Compensation and benefits
The role is paid at $18.00 per hour.
