About the Role

Located in Dublin, this part-time permanent position is with the Extension Service, a Youth Drop-In Centre under Focus Ireland which serves as a critical initial contact point for young people experiencing homelessness or housing instability. The service offers a stable environment providing essentials such as food, showers, and laundry facilities while promoting positive change to help these young individuals quickly move towards stable housing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate in line with the values, policies, and objectives of Focus Ireland, ensuring adherence to health and safety standards.
  • Create a safe and welcoming atmosphere for homeless or at-risk young people aged 16–26.
  • Establish trusting relationships particularly with youths living on the streets or in emergency housing.
  • Support young people in setting and attaining personal goals aimed at fostering independence and wellbeing.
  • Assist youth in navigating housing options, welfare rights, entitlements, and suitable move-on accommodations.
  • Conduct engaging and educational one-on-one and group support sessions.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive support services.
  • Provide preventive advice, guidance, and information addressing homelessness issues.
  • Maintain precise case files, daily logs, assessments, and database entries as per organizational standards.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with external agencies to coordinate youth supports.
  • Support the day-to-day operations necessary for the effective functioning of the service.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, training, and relevant external engagements.
  • Work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, and perform additional duties supporting service goals.

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree-level third-level qualification in social care-related fields (youth work, social studies, addiction, psychology) or CORU registration as a Social Care Worker.
  • Hands-on experience working in social care with disadvantaged young people.
  • Comprehensive understanding of factors impacting youths out-of-home and their development.
  • Experience managing high-risk and challenging behaviors.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in team settings focused on common objectives.
  • Proficiency in computer use.
  • Familiarity with the National Quality Standards Framework for Youth Work 2011 (a plus).
  • Awareness of child protection concerns and appropriate response frameworks (desirable).
