Role overview

This position is for a site-based Project Manager responsible for steering the complete execution of a large construction assignment. The role carries end-to-end ownership of delivery, with focus on meeting timelines, controlling costs, maintaining safety, and ensuring quality. The project head serves as the primary accountable person for all on-site functions, including engineering, procurement coordination, construction activities, and stakeholder coordination.

Key responsibilities

  • Own overall project delivery against scope, schedule, budget, and quality targets, and create execution plans, timelines, and manpower/resource strategies.
  • Guide and coordinate multidisciplinary site teams such as construction, engineering, planning, QA/QC, EHS, and administration, while tracking progress and correcting variances.
  • Make sure all safety, quality, and statutory requirements are followed, and work closely with design, procurement, and external consultants to keep execution aligned.
  • Maintain working relationships with clients, consultants, vendors, and contractors, and review as well as approve construction approaches and work sequencing.
  • Conduct regular daily and weekly review sessions with internal teams and external agencies, while monitoring budgets, cost deviations, and site spending discipline.

Stakeholder interface

  • Internal: Coordinate with cross-functional site teams to keep execution aligned across departments.
  • Internal: Work with design and technical teams to resolve technical issues and design-related queries.
  • External: Interact with clients, consultants, and regulators for progress updates, approvals, and compliance reviews.
  • External: Engage contractors, vendors, and agencies for execution planning, coordination, and performance tracking.

Qualifications and experience

A B.E. or B.Tech in Civil Engineering, or a similar discipline, is required. The role calls for 20 to 25 years of experience in leading large-scale construction projects. The ideal candidate should have handled industrial, infrastructure, or major commercial assignments end to end, with solid command over planning, cost management, quality assurance, and safety practices. Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing several contractors and vendors is also expected.

Language requirements

Fluency in English, Hindi, and the local language is needed for effective coordination and communication.

Skills required

The role demands strong command over project planning software such as MS Project and Primavera, along with practical knowledge of construction execution methods. Additional strengths include budgeting, cost control, risk handling, contract administration, change management, cost estimation, de-snagging, EHS oversight, reading technical drawings, invoicing and billing, project performance tracking, scheduling, rate analysis, regulatory compliance, resource planning, subcontractor coordination, and technical inspection. Leadership abilities such as strategic thinking, decision-making, team leadership, conflict resolution, presentation, result orientation, and crisis handling are important.
