Job description

Position Overview

We are collaborating with a leading client engaged in the UK's high-speed rail infrastructure to recruit two Project Managers. These roles support different Integrated Project Teams and demand hands-on project management on site. As the client’s representative, you will oversee that projects meet budget, schedule, and quality standards while managing contractor performance and mitigating risks.

Role Details

  • Role 1: Head House Buildings (North Acton, London) - Responsible for complete construction oversight and fit out delivery of the Head House Buildings, managing from initial groundworks to operational readiness. Background in station building construction and fit out is highly relevant.
  • Role 2: MEP Fitout (Maple Cross, Buckinghamshire) - Manage client interests on the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) fitout of a 16km twin-bore tunnel, including two portal buildings and lift shafts. Scope covers ducting, fire protection, and power systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the NEC3 Project Manager agent on behalf of the client and Senior Project Manager.
  • Steer the project’s assigned scope, ensuring contractor adherence to schedule, performance, and quality benchmarks.
  • Review and approve project schedules, focusing on critical path and dependencies.
  • Continuously identify and manage risks, establish mitigation plans, and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Fulfill delegated Construction Design and Management (CDM) obligations.
  • Assertively represent client interests, confidently handling technical and commercial discussions with contractors.
  • Scrutinize contractor submissions for compliance with client standards and requirements.
  • Track project budget and timeline, promptly highlighting cost variances and scheduling deviations.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated extensive hands-on project management experience protecting client interests in large construction and fit out projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building delivery processes and systems integration.
  • Familiarity with NEC3 contracts, having served as or supported NEC3 Project Manager roles on-site.
  • Excellent problem-solving aptitude and negotiation capabilities, able to professionally challenge contractors while maintaining solid relationships.
  • Ability to balance conflicting demands of cost, timetable, quality, and client priorities.
  • Proven track record managing day-to-day contract implementation and quick issue identification.
  • Qualified in civil engineering, building management, project management, or possessing equivalent experience targeting intermediate/project manager level per APM standards.
  • Strong presence and credibility with contractors, comfortable making and defending decisions.

Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a salary of £83,672 per annum along with a pension benefit of 12%. The working arrangement is hybrid with three days in the office.
