About the role
An established civil engineering contractor is looking for an experienced Project Manager to strengthen its expanding team. The business is known for delivering complex infrastructure work across multiple sectors and places a strong emphasis on innovation, sustainability, and high operational standards.
This position plays a key part in delivering projects successfully. You will oversee site operations, coordinate teams, and make sure work is completed in line with programme targets, budget controls, and health and safety expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Examine project plans and build a detailed baseline schedule in Microsoft Project.
- Track progress against programme milestones and provide regular status updates to clients.
- Spot delays affecting the critical path and negotiate time extensions when needed.
- Assess project pricing and keep internal spending under control to support delivery within budget.
- Identify financial exposure, investigate the underlying causes, and put corrective measures in place.
- Escalate commercial matters and proposed solutions to the Contracts Manager.
- Handle project variations and pursue appropriate cost recovery from the client.
- Check contract paperwork and issue mandatory notices within the required deadlines.
- Lead site-based staff, including the Site Agent, Project Engineer, and Quantity Surveyor.
- Supervise site delivery through the Site Agent to ensure efficient operations.
- Review and sign off monthly progress claims.
- Approve RAMS and pre-construction health and safety documentation.
- Carry out routine health, safety, and quality inspections.
- Spot design-related issues and work with the client to develop workable solutions.
Candidate profile
- Demonstrated background as a Project Manager in civil engineering or construction.
- Utilities experience, particularly in road corridor environments, is an advantage.
- Solid understanding of contract administration and commercial control.
- Confident user of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project.
- Strong leadership ability along with clear communication and good organisation.
- Full, clean driving licence is required.
- A civil engineering or construction background is preferred.
