Job description
Role overview
SBS Drivetec, the North American operation of BURGER Group based in Germany, is looking for a Project Manager to lead automotive manufacturing projects from the earliest planning stages to final completion. The role sits within a highly automated advanced manufacturing environment in Barrie, Ontario, where automotive actuators are produced using injection molding and assembly technologies.
This position is responsible for keeping project work aligned with business objectives, maintaining timelines, and acting as the main point of contact between engineering, production, supply chain, quality, and customers. The ideal candidate will bring strong organization, technical understanding, and leadership capability to manage complex work in a fast-moving setting.
This opportunity is currently open for applications. The stated compensation range is $75,000 to $90,000 per year.
Key responsibilities
The Project Manager will coordinate project execution from customer proposal through PPAP and SOP, while supporting launch readiness and ongoing production activities. The role includes working closely with customers, suppliers, and internal cross-functional groups to keep plans on track and issues resolved quickly.
Core duties include preparing planning documents, tracking progress through a stage-gate process, setting realistic milestones, and ensuring internal teams understand deliverables and timing expectations. The role also involves active support of APQP activities, vendor coordination, project meetings, and regular reporting on project status.
Additional responsibilities cover cross-functional alignment, communication of engineering changes, review of part costing and budget variations, packaging coordination, and development of process and system improvements. Continuous improvement support is also part of the position.
Education and experience
A Mechanical Engineering degree or an equivalent qualification is required. Applicants should have experience in an automotive OEM or tier manufacturing environment, along with 3 years of project management experience. A PMP certification is also required.
Skills and abilities
The successful candidate should understand IATF 16949 and be comfortable using MS Office tools and project management software. Strong leadership of cross-functional teams, clear communication, attention to detail, the ability to juggle multiple priorities, and a proactive, results-focused mindset are important for this role.
Physical demands
This role includes regular computer-based work and periods of prolonged sitting, with opportunities to change positions during the day. It may also involve frequent hand and wrist movement, sustained screen use, and occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, and light lifting of up to 20–25 lbs.
Health and safety expectations
The position requires compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and company safety rules. The employee must wear required PPE, report hazards or incidents right away, attend safety training, follow machine guarding and lockout/tagout procedures where applicable, and meet ESD requirements while wearing CSA-approved footwear.
Benefits
The company offers health benefits, dental coverage, RRSP matching, 3 weeks of vacation each year, a $200 annual shoe allowance, company events such as BBQs, Christmas parties, and golf tournaments, plus a birthday gift.
Accommodation
The company will provide workplace accommodation in line with the Ontario Human Rights Code for candidates and employees with disabilities, upon request.
