Job description
About the role
Ventia is hiring a senior leader to oversee a national Wireless and Critical Infrastructure portfolio in New Zealand. This position sits within the New Zealand Telecommunications Senior Leadership Team and carries broad responsibility across delivery, commercial performance, and long-term growth.
The role is not focused on a single contract. Instead, it covers multiple clients, programmes, and delivery approaches, often with overlapping priorities and a high level of complexity. Success here depends on bringing clarity, structure, and commercial discipline across the entire portfolio so that performance stays consistent, client relationships remain strong, and future work continues to flow.
What you will do
- Direct a national portfolio and lead a team of more than 90 people to achieve safe, dependable delivery and strong client outcomes.
- Take ownership of commercial results, including revenue, margin, cost control, and sustainable portfolio growth.
- Develop and sustain client and partner relationships that convert strong delivery into future opportunities.
- Maintain a healthy pipeline of work across panel, quote-do, bid, and tender environments.
- Guide and motivate a large, diverse workforce and subcontractor network by setting clear expectations, accountability, and capability standards.
About you
You are a senior operational and commercial leader who can unite people and deliver results in demanding environments. You are comfortable working across several clients, programmes, and stakeholders at once, and you know how to turn complexity into order.
You can balance delivery execution, client management, and commercial performance, with an understanding that long-term growth comes from disciplined delivery, sound judgement, and trusted partnerships. You are strategic in outlook, while still staying close enough to operations to influence outcomes directly.
Experience and strengths
- Background in telecommunications, critical infrastructure, or a related field services environment.
- Proven success leading large portfolios across multiple clients and programmes.
- Strong commercial capability, including financial ownership, contract management, and margin management.
- Experience working in panel, quote-do, bid, tender, or pipeline-led settings.
- Track record of leading dispersed teams and subcontractor relationships.
- Ability to contribute at senior leadership level beyond a single portfolio.
- Skilled at building trust quickly and communicating clearly with all levels of the business.
- Able to bring structure to complexity and make balanced decisions with confidence.
- Leads with authenticity and accountability, creating aligned and high-performing teams.
- Knows when to get into the detail and when to lead through systems, governance, and others.
Why join Ventia
- Help deliver essential infrastructure that supports communities across New Zealand.
- Work with a collaborative leadership team that values different viewpoints.
- Be part of an environment that supports flexibility, wellbeing, and work-life balance.
- Access opportunities to progress your career within a global organisation.
- Contribute to a culture centred on safety, inclusion, and enduring partnerships.
