About the Department

The UCLA Department of Social Welfare focuses on research and education that influence policymakers, shape practical programs, and address key social issues such as welfare support, aging, healthcare, mental health, children and families, and long-term care. The faculty is dedicated to applying their expertise to empower marginalized and vulnerable populations.

Position Overview

The Department is looking for a Research Data Analyst to contribute to projects within its Gerontology Interdisciplinary Minor. This role involves applying statistical techniques to original research to provide data-driven insights on intergenerational engagement, interpersonal dynamics, and health outcomes relating to aging across generations.

The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the Principal Investigator and a multidisciplinary team, helping with grant proposal development, study design and execution, data management and analysis, project coordination, and dissemination of academic and community-based findings. They will also assist with interpreting research outcomes and developing reports and scholarly communications for researchers, policymakers, practitioners, and community partners.

Qualifications

• Proven expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies.
• Experience managing and cleaning data to maintain high-quality and reliable datasets.
• Proficient use of statistical tools and programming languages including SPSS and Atlas.
• Knowledge and skills in database systems and query languages such as REDCap, Qualtrics, and Endnote.
• Understanding of human subjects research ethics and Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols.
• Preferred familiarity with implementation science and equity frameworks.
• Competence in data visualization and reporting techniques.
• Ability to analyze statistical results critically to identify trends, anomalies, and meaningful patterns.
• Strong technical writing skills to communicate complex information effectively.
• Preferred experience coordinating projects, with ability to manage timelines and project milestones.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to engage diverse audiences including faculty, students, staff, and community stakeholders.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and data security standards.

Education

• Required: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Social Welfare, or Social Research, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Preferred: Master’s and/or PhD degrees in Social Work, Social Welfare, or Social Research.

• Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Schedule and Terms

This part-time role is based onsite with a variable work schedule. The position is covered by the RP-Research and Public Service policy union.

Salary Information

Salary will be determined based on various factors such as budget availability, applicant qualifications, previous experience, and other relevant considerations. UCLA offers comprehensive benefits starting from the first day of employment.
