Job description
Overview
This role supports public affairs initiatives focused on innovation programs that connect U.S. and Japanese companies, including small and medium-sized businesses and startups, as well as overseas expansion efforts for Japanese startups. The position is based in New York, NY and follows an office-first hybrid schedule.
Work Schedule and Location
Hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a lunch break from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. The work arrangement involves being in the office 3 to 5 days per week and working from home 0 to 2 days per week.
Compensation
Pay is set at $24.50 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and communicate with internal teams, outside partners, contractors, and other stakeholders involved in innovation-focused programs.
- Review project documents, reports, and deliverables to confirm accuracy and completeness.
- Help with event operations and broader program logistics.
- Research and compile information and data connected to innovation and startup support activities.
- Handle routine administrative and accounting-related work.
- Assist with procurement, contract handling, and purchasing tasks tied to innovation projects, open innovation initiatives, and overseas growth support for Japanese startups.
Requirements
- Professional-level written and spoken communication in both Japanese and English is required, including for meetings, interviews, and phone calls.
- Hands-on experience with Office 365 tools such as Copilot, OneNote, Planner, and Lists is needed.
- Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills are necessary, including calculations, data analysis, and chart or graph creation.
- A background in technical or scientific fields is not required.
- Must be willing and able to travel within the United States when needed.
- Must be able to attend meetings and events in the greater New York area.
- Interest in innovation, startups, and new business development is strongly preferred.
