Job description

About the Company

The Comfort Group is the parent group behind Sleepyhead, a New Zealand-based bedding brand with more than 90 years of history. The business is fully Kiwi-owned and run, creates local employment, and supports the communities it operates in. It is a family-owned operation with teams across New Zealand and Australia, and many employees have built very long careers there, including some spanning more than five decades. The company is part of The Comfort Group, which is Australasia’s largest bedding and foam manufacturer and operates several facilities across both countries, including four large super sites.

About the Role

This position is based at the Otahuhu site and involves practical, hands-on work within the bedding production area. Depending on your background, you may work with raw materials, run machinery and equipment used in the manufacturing process, and move between different production stations such as mattress assembly, sewing, quilting, bases, upholstery, packing, spring line, housekeeping, and related areas.

Comprehensive training is provided, with the chance to develop into a multi-skilled team member across the site.

Key Duties

  • Carry out manual production work and use machinery in line with safety and quality expectations
  • Follow all operational instructions and workplace safety processes during production
  • Check that raw materials and completed products meet required quality standards
  • Perform quality inspections and keep records accurate and up to date
  • Work closely with others to help maintain a safe, efficient, and positive workplace
  • Move between assigned work areas as required and keep the site tidy and well organised
  • Raise issues such as hazards, equipment faults, and quality non-conformances without delay
  • Take part in training sessions and workplace health and safety improvement activities
  • Complete any other tasks assigned by your supervisor

About You

The ideal candidate is dependable, motivated, and comfortable with practical, physically active work. You should enjoy being part of a team, be eager to learn, and place a strong focus on safety and product quality.

Requirements

  • Ability to manage manual handling and physical tasks
  • Dependable and consistently punctual
  • Positive team-oriented attitude
  • Strong focus on workplace safety and quality standards
  • Willingness to learn and rotate through different production areas
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Previous manufacturing experience is helpful but not necessary
  • Forklift licence is an advantage for some roles

Benefits

  • Supportive and friendly team culture
  • Full training with ongoing opportunities to build skills
  • Subsidised cafeteria
  • Onsite parking
  • Staff discounts

Safety and Workplace Expectations

The company places a strong emphasis on safety and respectful conduct. You will be expected to comply with all safety procedures, wear the required PPE, and help contribute to a constructive team environment.

Additional Information

This is a practical production role in a manufacturing setting with rotation across multiple work centres. A willingness to learn, adapt, and support different areas of the site will be important for success.
