About the Role
This opportunity is ideal for a mechanical production engineer looking to enhance their career in a high-tech and security-focused manufacturing environment located east of Melbourne. The position starts as a 12-month contract with potential for permanent employment. The company specializes in smart card payment technology and security identity, operating a high volume production facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, optimization, and ongoing improvement of mechanical processes and plant machinery.
- Examine equipment performance to find opportunities to increase reliability, efficiency, and productivity.
- Conduct mechanical investigations and root cause analyses, implementing corrective measures accordingly.
- Create and maintain engineering documents, technical specifications, standard operating procedures, and maintenance schedules.
- Provide engineering support during plant upgrades, new equipment installations, and commissioning efforts.
- Review mechanical schematics, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and related technical documentation.
- Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, and project teams to achieve safe and effective engineering outcomes.
- Ensure all work complies with Australian Standards, best engineering practices, and workplace health and safety protocols.
Candidate Profile
- Holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Possesses over three years of experience in mechanical, process, manufacturing, industrial, utilities, or heavy engineering sectors.
- Familiar with rotating equipment, pumps, valves, piping systems, conveyors, and other mechanical plant machinery.
- Skilled at reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Demonstrates strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting abilities, and problem-solving skills.
- Communicates effectively and works well within multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with reliability engineering, asset management, or preventive maintenance programs.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement methods such as Lean or Six Sigma.
- Proficiency in CMMS, CAD software, or engineering analysis tools.
- Exposure to commissioning, maintenance scheduling, and capital project work.
