Role Overview
The Product Owner will guide the direction of a core platform that supports infrastructure, shared services, common frameworks, developer tooling, and security standards. This role requires close partnership with internal customers such as product, engineering, and DevOps teams to shape platform priorities, improve delivery, and keep the ecosystem scalable, secure, and efficient.
Platform Strategy and Vision
- Set and clearly explain the long-term direction and roadmap for the platform, including infrastructure, shared services, frameworks, developer tools, and security practices.
- Represent internal users and partner teams to capture their dependencies, challenges, and expectations around speed, scale, resilience, and reliability.
- Review trends in platform technologies such as cloud, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and observability to ensure the platform stays current, competitive, and cost-aware.
- Establish KPIs and OKRs for the platform, with emphasis on measures such as developer productivity, system stability, security adherence, and cost effectiveness.
Platform Development and Prioritization
- Own, refine, and rank the platform backlog by turning architecture initiatives, technical debt items, and shared technical needs into well-defined user stories with acceptance criteria.
- Run Agile routines for the platform engineering team, including sprint planning, backlog grooming, daily stand-ups, and reviews.
- Juggle competing demands between near-term feature support, urgent security fixes, and longer-term architectural improvement work.
- Work with the Chief Architect and engineering leaders to make sure platform decisions stay aligned with enterprise architecture direction.
- Approve or decline finished work based on the Definition of Done, making sure quality, documentation, security, and operational readiness expectations are met.
Stakeholder Management and Communication
- Act as the main point of contact between the platform engineering team and the teams that consume the platform.
- Coordinate communication and dependencies across multiple technical groups, explaining platform capabilities, upcoming changes, and migration approaches in a clear way.
- Prepare and maintain strong documentation such as APIs, integration guides, and service catalogs to support adoption and reduce friction for dependent teams.
- Lead internal demonstrations and training sessions to promote new platform capabilities and encourage organization-wide adoption.
Required Experience and Skills
- At least 5 years of experience in software development, engineering management, or product ownership within a technical environment.
- Minimum 3 years of direct experience as a Product Owner or Technical Lead for a platform, infrastructure, or shared services team.
- Hands-on exposure to complex distributed systems, including microservices, APIs, and cloud-native environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Good understanding of modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD, GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, and service mesh concepts.
- Working knowledge of platform building blocks such as API gateways, identity and access management through OAuth/OpenID, monitoring and observability, and container orchestration with Kubernetes or Docker.
- Ability to interpret technical designs, architecture diagrams, and solution trade-offs while discussing them with senior engineering stakeholders.
