Job description
About the Company
Nomba is creating the financial operating backbone for businesses across Africa. The company helps organizations take payments, handle money, access banking services, and run operations more efficiently across physical and digital channels.
Its customers include small and medium-sized businesses as well as large enterprises. They use Nomba for POS terminals, online payment collection, business accounts, transfers, virtual accounts, APIs, and operational tools that support everyday commerce.
Role Overview
This position is for a Product Manager who will lead a key part of the business banking experience, covering how business customers transact, connect systems, manage teams, use terminals, and interact with Nomba through APIs.
The role spans multiple product surfaces, including mobile apps, web experiences, Android POS terminals, internal operations tooling, developer APIs, virtual accounts, transfers, and webhooks. The goal is to make the business banking experience dependable, scalable, secure, and simple for customers and internal teams alike.
You will collaborate closely with Engineering, Compliance, Risk, Operations, Customer Support, Sales, and business stakeholders.
Ownership Areas
Business banking customer journey: You will be responsible for the full experience of business customers using Nomba’s banking and account products, including account upgrades, business verification, approval flows, and day-to-day account management across mobile and web. A major focus will be reducing friction, improving conversion, lowering support volume, and helping businesses activate faster.
POS terminals and merchant payments: You will own the Android terminal experience, including payment flows, reliability, security, certification needs, support for new devices, and enhancements for merchants. This covers transaction routing, terminal stability, payment alerts, card acceptance, scan-to-pay, Apple Pay, international card support, device certification, and security-related improvements.
Developer platform, APIs, and virtual accounts: You will treat APIs as core products. This includes Virtual Accounts APIs, Transfer APIs, Refund APIs, webhook reliability, sandbox usage, API documentation, API key management, access controls, error handling, and overall developer experience. Your work will help businesses and developers integrate more easily, test safely, understand failures, and build reliable money movement workflows.
Internal operations tooling: You will partner with Operations, Compliance, and Support to improve the tools used to manage business customers. This may include account upgrade tooling, verification controls, audit trails, account restrictions, IP allowlisting, suspicious activity analytics, and admin or Watchtower workflows. The objective is to make internal teams faster, safer, and more effective with less manual effort.
Teams and multi-user business accounts: You will improve the way businesses invite, manage, and assign team members across multiple business accounts, including identity edge cases, permissions, invitation flows, and support for customers working across different markets.
Day-to-Day Work
You will define product requirements, write clear specifications, manage the roadmap, prioritize the backlog, unblock Engineering, review data, investigate customer and operational issues, and drive delivery through sprint cycles.
You will be expected to balance new feature development with reliability, performance, security, compliance, and operational improvements.
You will also communicate progress through the company’s product cadence, including weekly delivery updates, sprint demos, roadmap reviews, and stakeholder updates.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the roadmap for business banking customer journeys, POS terminals, and developer-facing platform areas.
- Improve critical flows such as account upgrades, account approvals, and business account activation.
- Define product requirements for virtual accounts, webhooks, sandbox environments, API documentation, and API access controls.
- Enhance terminal payment journeys, terminal reliability, device readiness, transaction routing, and the merchant terminal experience.
- Work with Compliance, Risk, and Operations on KYC, face verification, account restrictions, auditability, and regulatory needs.
- Partner with Engineering on trade-offs, delivery sequencing, technical dependencies, and reliable releases.
- Use data to track onboarding conversion, API performance, transfer latency, webhook delivery, terminal stability, and incident patterns.
- Improve internal tools used by Operations, Compliance, and Support teams.
- Raise the quality of developer experience through better documentation, broader sandbox coverage, clearer error messages, and smoother integrations.
- Investigate production incidents and contribute to root-cause analysis and prevention measures.
- Maintain a well-prioritized backlog across mobile, web, terminal, API, and internal tooling areas.
- Clearly share roadmap choices, delivery status, risks, and trade-offs with stakeholders.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means business customers can onboard more quickly, transact more reliably, integrate more smoothly, and face fewer support issues.
Performance will be judged by outcomes such as faster and more dependable transfers and API transactions, better integration experiences for developers, stronger terminal stability, fewer merchant payment problems, shorter turnaround times for account approvals and support workflows, improved visibility into performance and incident metrics, and strong collaboration across Engineering, Compliance, Operations, Support, and Sales.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have strong product judgment, a high sense of ownership, and the ability to work across complex financial products where customer experience, technical design, compliance, reliability, and commercial results all matter at once.
You should be able to simplify complexity, write clearly, prioritize decisively, and build trust with both technical and non-technical teams.
Required Experience
- At least 5 years of product management experience.
- Preferably 2 or more years working in fintech, payments, banking, financial infrastructure, SaaS, APIs, POS, or another highly complex product area.
- Experience owning products delivered regularly through sprint-based processes.
- Strong grasp of customer experience, product discovery, requirements definition, and delivery management.
- Ability to collaborate closely with Engineering on technical trade-offs and implementation sequencing.
- Experience using data, dashboards, or SQL to examine product performance and user behavior.
- Strong written communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Comfort working with Compliance, Risk, Operations, and Support stakeholders.
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Exposure to POS terminals, Android payment devices, or hardware-adjacent products.
- Background in developer platforms, APIs, webhooks, sandbox environments, or technical documentation.
- Experience with virtual accounts, transfers, payment routing, card payments, or banking infrastructure.
- Familiarity with KYC, AML, NIBSS, account restrictions, transaction monitoring, or fraud controls.
Who Will Thrive Here
This role is best suited to someone who is structured, commercially aware, technically curious, and focused on execution.
You should enjoy working in the details while also being able to step back and shape broader product direction. Comfort moving between customer journeys, API behavior, terminal issues, operational workflows, compliance requirements, and engineering constraints is important.
This is a high-ownership role for someone who wants to build core fintech infrastructure used daily by real businesses.
Why Join Nomba
You will work on products that sit at the center of how businesses get paid, move money, and run their operations. The scope is broad, the problems are meaningful, and the impact is visible.
You will help shape the next generation of business banking, payment acceptance, and financial infrastructure for African businesses.
