Job description

About the role

Innovac GmbH is building a new recyclable, lightweight panel platform for furniture, storage, modular interior solutions, and structural use cases. The company is seeking a product designer / CAD designer who can help convert this material concept into workable prototype products such as basic furniture pieces, storage boxes, shelving, cabinets, room dividers, and modular connector systems.

The position blends product design, CAD work, prototyping, and hands-on product development. It suits someone who can think creatively while also making technically sound decisions, and who is comfortable taking a project from early concept through CAD development to physical prototypes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop product ideas that use lightweight panel materials together with modular profiles.
  • Build CAD models, technical drawings, and detailed specifications for furniture, boxes, and panel-based assemblies.
  • Create joining solutions, edge caps, inserts, profiles, and simple hardware interfaces.
  • Produce manufacturing-ready files and drawings for CNC cutting, routing, welding, bending, assembly, and prototyping.
  • Coordinate with engineering, workshop, and production partners to refine designs around real fabrication constraints.
  • Contribute to modular product families built around standard board dimensions, profile systems, and connection principles.
  • Prepare renderings and presentation visuals for customers, partners, and investors.
  • Refine prototypes using test results, assembly feedback, and practical observations.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on CAD ability, ideally with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, Inventor, AutoCAD, or equivalent software.
  • Solid understanding of product design, furniture design, industrial design, or technical product development.
  • Capability to design functional parts with correct tolerances, joints, fasteners, and assembly details.
  • Experience working with sheet materials, panels, plastics, furniture, exhibition systems, modular structures, or lightweight product systems.
  • Ability to translate early sketches into production-ready CAD documentation.
  • A balance of creative thinking and practical execution.
  • Interest in sustainable materials, circular design, and real-world prototyping.
  • Bonus experience may include CNC routing, plastic welding, thermoforming, extrusion profiles, or sheet fabrication.
  • Additional advantage: familiarity with furniture hardware, connectors, hinges, edge finishing, or modular systems.
  • Experience with sustainable or recycled materials and lightweight structures is also beneficial.
  • Rendering ability for product presentations is a plus.

What the role is aiming to achieve

The objective is to transform a new lightweight panel material into working prototype products that demonstrate how it can be used in furniture, boxes, modular interiors, and structural lightweight applications.

This is not intended to be only a conceptual design role or only a desk-based CAD position. The ideal person should be able to combine creative design thinking, technical understanding, and strong practical execution.
