Role overview
Commonwealth Bank is looking for a Product Designer to contribute to its mission of making banking feel more human, helpful, and intuitive. You will join the Digitally Nurture & Guide Squad within the Digital Growth Engine Crew in Home Buying, with a focus on native mobile app experiences and AI-enabled journeys that support customers as they move from initial interest to home loan funding.
In this role, you will work with an Experience Design Lead, a Product Lead, engineers, and other designers to identify opportunities, shape solutions, and deliver measurable improvements for customers and the business through the CommBank app.
Key responsibilities
- Own the design of mobile app and AI experiences across the home loan journey.
- Define and evolve the experience strategy from early customer exploration through to loan funding.
- Continuously uncover customer needs, friction points, and new opportunities through discovery.
- Collaborate closely with product, engineering, AI, data, risk, and lending teams.
- Develop user journeys, flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity design outputs.
- Create AI-based guidance, automation, and personalised experience concepts.
- Test and refine solutions through prototyping, user testing, and experimentation.
- Support delivery work from MVP stage through to scalable, optimised experiences.
- Use customer insights and business data to improve conversion, completion, and confidence.
- Promote accessibility, strong design standards, and customer-centred decision-making.
What you bring
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and explain design decisions clearly.
- Proven product design experience across mobile products and end-to-end digital journeys.
- Hands-on experience in discovery, research, prototyping, and validating solutions.
- Ability to translate customer needs and business goals into experience strategy.
- Solid interaction design, journey mapping, and service design capabilities.
- Confidence designing AI-supported guidance, automation, and personalised flows.
- Ability to use data and insights to improve user and commercial outcomes.
- Experience working with product, engineering, data, AI, and risk partners.
- Comfort taking solutions from MVP through to mature, scalable products.
- Strong practice in accessibility, design systems, and high-quality execution.
- Ability to tell the story of design decisions in a clear and compelling way.
