Job description

About the Role

Nerveli is looking for a meticulous and thoughtful Product Design Intern to contribute to our chronic pain support platform by handling practical UX and UI design tasks. This internship involves transforming product requirements, user insights, and existing design frameworks into coherent and smooth user experiences, primarily using Figma.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity visual screens, interactive prototypes, and vendor-ready design documentation using Figma.
  • Convert product needs, user feedback, and pre-established UX guidelines into clear wireframes and designs.
  • Maintain and apply Nerveli’s component library, design standards, and visual patterns consistently.
  • Create reusable components and styles to improve design uniformity and workflow efficiency, ideally with knowledge of variables.
  • Prepare well-organized, annotated files for developers that clearly show states, interactions, and edge conditions.
  • Design responsive interfaces for both mobile and web platforms as project requirements develop.
  • Review implemented designs to ensure alignment with approved layouts and note any discrepancies in visuals or interactions.
  • Incorporate feedback and perform revisions within agreed timelines.
  • Support accessibility by ensuring readable hierarchy, adequate contrast, proper touch target sizes, and intuitive interaction cues.
  • Keep the Figma workspace, components, explorations, and finished designs orderly and easy for team collaboration.
  • Engage in product design critiques and propose ideas while adhering to the defined product strategy.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a college/university or comparable program in UX/UI design, interaction design, product design, communication design, or related fields.
  • Proficient in Figma based on academic, volunteer, personal, or professional experience.
  • Capable of creating and modifying reusable components and variants with accurate properties and states.
  • Experienced using Auto Layout for consistent, responsive interface spacing and layouts.
  • Practiced in working with existing UI kits or component libraries applying complex components correctly.
  • Knowledgeable about Figma styles such as color, text, and effects and consistent implementation across designs.
  • Strong foundational grasp of user flows, wireframing, interface design, and prototyping.
  • Excellent visual judgment focusing on spacing, hierarchy, consistency, and detail.
  • Receptive to feedback, able to revise work, and reliable in meeting deadlines.
  • Comfortable collaborating with teams while handling independent design tasks.
  • Motivated to create thoughtful, accessible designs for individuals with complex health conditions.

Additional Skills (Desirable but not mandatory)

  • Familiarity with Figma variables, modes, or tokens within design systems.
  • Experience contributing new patterns or components to an existing design system.
  • Understanding of responsive design practices and developer handoff procedures.
  • Experience in usability testing, accessibility assessments, or design quality assurance.
  • Relevant coursework or projects in mobile applications, digital health, or behavior-change design.
  • Basic knowledge of project management tools like Jira.

What You Will Gain

  • Work outputs that can strengthen your portfolio with real-world digital health product designs.
  • Experience transforming requirements and feedback into refined, implementation-ready design assets.
  • Exposure to operating within a product strategy, design system, and a collaborative cross-functional team.
  • Practice in participating in design reviews, iterations, handoffs, and reviewing implementations.
  • Mentorship and constructive input from Nerveli’s Vice President of Product.
