Role overview
Glencore Australia’s Copper Refinery in Townsville, Queensland is hiring a Product Control Officer to support the CRL Technical Team. This is a residential position on a Monday to Friday roster of 40 hours per week, designed to offer meaningful, varied work while allowing you to be home each day.

Townsville Operations sits on the tropical North Queensland coast and is an important part of Glencore’s integrated supply chain. The site includes Copper Refineries Pty Ltd, recognised as one of the world’s leading electrolytic copper refineries, as well as Glencore Port Operations at the Port of Townsville, which acts as the export point for North Queensland resources.

About the role
You will join the Metallurgical team and report to the Superintendent Metallurgical Process. Working in a small team, you will help manage production reporting, quality control, and the preparation of copper cathode for dispatch from the refinery.
Key responsibilities
- Keep the production database up to date, including entering and revising customer orders.
- Coordinate copper cathode transport with the logistics partner.
- Complete weekly and monthly stock counts and associated reporting.
- Prepare daily production reports for copper cathode.
- Weigh and strap copper cathode bundles.
- Carry out quality checks and assurance activities before cathode is transported.
- Work across commercial, production, maintenance and laboratory teams to keep processes running smoothly.
Experience and skills required
The successful applicant will bring at least two years of experience in logistics, stock control or planning. You should be confident working with inventory systems, handling data in Microsoft Excel, and identifying and correcting discrepancies. Strong attention to detail, practical problem-solving ability, and clear communication are essential. The role also needs someone who can respond to changing customer and operational priorities, take ownership in a small team, and maintain a strong safety mindset. You must also be physically able to work outdoors for a substantial part of the day.
Qualifications and skills
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in logistics, stock management or planning.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel capability, including data handling and error correction.
- Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and people skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability in an operational setting.
- Flexibility to adjust to changing customer and business requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Consistent commitment to safe work practices.
- Physical capacity to work outside for up to 60% of the day.
- Current forklift competency, which would be an advantage.
