The Atlantic is searching for a dedicated producer to contribute to our expanding video podcast initiatives. The successful candidate should possess a broad intellectual curiosity, especially regarding humanities, history, intellectual discourse, and current news. This role involves editing video podcast content using Adobe Premiere under strict timelines, providing research support, coordinating guest bookings, managing logistical arrangements for recordings, and working closely with hosts, producers, and audio engineers. Collaboration across various newsroom departments is also essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit video podcast episodes using Adobe Premiere, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Partner with hosts and editors to uphold high editorial standards.
  • Assist senior producers throughout the production lifecycle from planning to post-production.
  • Arrange guest bookings and conduct thorough research on guests and subject matter.
  • Cut and publish podcast episodes, coordinating with teams such as legal, art, audience, copy editing, story editing, and fact-checking to maintain quality.
  • Schedule recording sessions and oversee setup of lighting, audio, and camera equipment to ensure smooth recordings for hosts and guests.
  • Enhance video content by integrating graphics, transitions, and other polished elements.
  • Maintain consistent visual and audio quality across all episodes.
  • Collaborate with the audience team to develop promotional clips for social media platforms.
  • Manage uploading of content to video and audio distribution channels.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in video production and editing, ideally with video series, podcasting, or journalism backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with editing and recording tools such as Riverside, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro.
  • Practical knowledge of lighting, audio, and camera operations for creating high-quality video content.
  • Experience working with remote recording procedures.
  • Excellent editorial judgment coupled with strong communication and collaboration capabilities.
  • Ability to produce superior work under tight deadlines, showcasing creative editorial problem-solving.
  • Familiarity with podcast and YouTube distribution platforms.
  • Preferred experience in motion graphics and animation.

Additional Details

  • Position may require working during evenings, early mornings, and weekends.
  • Located in Washington, D.C.
  • This is a guild-affiliated role.
  • The Atlantic is an equal opportunity employer strongly supportive of diversity and inclusion across all protected classes.
  • Employment is contingent on reference checks and compliance with The Atlantic’s COVID-19 vaccination policy; accommodations are available for medical or religious reasons.
