Job description

Role overview

Our client in Dublin is seeking a Process Scientist to join the Drug Substance technical support function on an initial 11-month contract. The role sits within MS&T and focuses on resolving technical issues, contributing to important lab-based projects, and helping foster a workplace culture built around safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

This position involves hands-on scientific support for process troubleshooting, investigation work, and experimental execution. You will help drive root cause analysis, support CAPA activities, and contribute to process improvements with a strong focus on end-to-end product performance.

  • Plan, lead, and carry out experimental work, along with the analysis and interpretation of data, to address difficult deviations.
  • Support process improvement and troubleshooting activities across the full product lifecycle.
  • Assist with investigations and help ensure robust root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Run experimental programs and interpret results to support technical decisions.
  • Support small-scale model runs, including buffer preparation, equipment setup, execution of runs, sampling, and data analysis.
  • Draft, revise, and review SOPs, protocols, and technical reports where needed.
  • Contribute to Lean Six Sigma-based continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work with development teams, other commercial sites, and external manufacturing partners to share knowledge and align approaches.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should bring strong technical capability, collaboration skills, and a commitment to ongoing improvement. Experience in leading technically complex projects is important, as is a background in biologics or related process science work.

  • Proven leadership and change management abilities, with a clear focus on continuous improvement.
  • Track record of improving team performance through coaching and development.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Strong teamwork and knowledge-sharing mindset, with the ability to promote best practices across the site.
  • Motivation to keep learning and developing professionally.
  • Experience managing projects with technical complexity.
  • Practical knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma methods.
  • Background in drug substance process development, process characterisation, downstream technology, or process modelling is preferred.
  • Experience designing and executing lab-based experimental studies.
  • Working knowledge of statistical tools for DOE and data analysis, such as JMP or Design Expert.
  • Experience in biologics manufacturing at laboratory, pilot, and/or commercial scale.
  • Exposure to technology transfer, regulatory submissions, and commercial drug substance manufacturing is an advantage.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Either a Master’s degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biological Engineering with at least 2 years of experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in one of those fields with at least 4 years of experience.

Eligibility

Candidates must already have the right to live and work in Ireland, as visa sponsorship is not available for this opportunity.
