Role Summary
Reporting to nurse managers, physicians, and team leaders, the Procedure Support Assistant works collaboratively with nursing staff, physicians, and support teams. This role upholds professional, respectful interactions with patients.
The Procedure Support Assistant is a vital member of the pain medicine procedural team assisting with direct and indirect patient care tasks under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. Responsibilities include patient support, executing physician-directed plans, handling and processing procedural equipment, and preparing procedure rooms.
The role supports a wide range of pain management procedures such as Epidural Steroid Injections, Genicular Blocks, Epidural Blood Patches, Spinal Cord Stimulator Trials, Platelet-Rich Plasma and Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate procedures, and Peripheral Nerve Stimulator placements. The position involves working in fluoroscopy and ultrasound procedural suites as well as recovery rooms.
The assistant operates radiofrequency ablation and ultrasound machines and is responsible for sterile field setup and patient preparation before procedures. Cross-training for other departmental areas may be required at the employer's discretion.
The role demands knowledge of developmental principles across lifespan stages to adequately interpret patient-specific information and communicate relevant status indicators.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Minimum education: High school diploma or GED equivalent
- At least 1 year of patient care experience required
- Preferred: Medical background with 1+ year experience in pain medicine or clinical procedural work
- Knowledge of sterile procedures
- Ability to manage stressful situations calmly and maintain positive communication in dynamic environments
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing work settings and schedules
- Willingness to adjust work hours according to clinical or departmental needs
- Maintenance of Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Additional specialty certifications or training as required by the work area
Working Conditions and Schedule
This is a full-time position, typically scheduled Monday through Friday with variable hours between 8:00 AM and 5:30 PM, totaling 80 hours per pay period. Weekend work is not applicable for this role.
